Training

It is Spring and the 2 brown dawgs are in training.  There is a nice park close to home that has a large grassy area for working on drills and marks.  Unfortunately, they keep the grass nicely cut so there is no cover.  There is also a clean little lake for working on water.  People are not allowed to swim, but they do fish.  There are also ducks in abundance on that lake which can sometimes draw the attention of the two Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.  Thunder and Storm have both passed the basic marking tests so now we are working on handling, whistle sits, multiple marks, and honors.  These are all skills required at the next level of tests.

Then Thunder’s handler just couldn’t resist calling to some of the ducks flying overhead.  Thunder said enough of the bumper, I’ll fetch the ducks.  Unfortunately it isn’t hunting season Thunder!

Big Results from the Big Dog Show Weekend

It was a great weekend at the Big Dog Show.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take a lot of photos.  There were so many Chessies, I was pressed into service to help hold dogs.  For most of the competition Saturday, I held a puppy and another dog.  They were well-behaved but a handful—no extra hands for a lot of pictures.  I was able to snap a few pictures.

Storm---I'll do it, but I don't have to like it

Unfortunately, Storm finished out of the ribbons.  She was well-mannered and moved nicely in the ring even though showing is not her favorite thing.

Smokey not only passed another leg toward her Rally Advanced Title on Friday, she took a Third Place ribbon on Saturday, and took Best of Opposite Sex on Sunday.  This was a huge 5 point major win for her.  Her Daddy Thunder is awfully proud of her!  Congratulations to Smokey and her handler.  Now Smokey has traveled south for some field training.

Also, Jezebel, the bitch I held for most of the show on Saturday, took Best of Winners.  Storm and Thunder were very happy because Jezebel is bred/trained/owned/and handled by the lady who did some of their basic field training.  A big congrats to Jezebel and her handler!

On Saturday, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever bitch won the Sporting Group.  This does not happen very often.  Josie is such a  beautiful dog.  Storm and Thunder were happy for Josie because Josie’s breeder is also Storm’s breeder.  Great job Josie and her handler!

Dog Show Weekend!

One of the 2 brown dawgs will be strutting her stuff tomorrow.  Storm is entered in a dog show that also has 45 other Chessies entered.  It should be a lot of fun.

Smokey and Radar, Thunder and Tule’s pups, are also entered in the show this weekend.  In addition, they are competing in Rally today.  Smokey already  has her Rally Novice Title and has one leg toward her Rally Advanced title.  She is trying for her second leg today.  Rally Advanced requires the dog to complete the Rally course off lead.  Radar is working toward his Rally Novice Title.  I believe Smokey and Radar are the only Chesapeake Bay Retrievers entered in Rally today.  Best of luck to the pups and their handlers!

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend today, but I am hoping to get some good pictures of the Chessies tomorrow.  I can’t wait to see all of the great dawgs!
