Smokey Goes For The (JH) Ribbon

There was a hunt test over this past weekend and we saw that a lot of Chesapeake Bay Retrievers were entered.  We decided to stop by to see them run and to watch a bit of the Senior Test so we could see what we were are in for with the next level of tests.

Since Thunder and Storm are not ready for the next level, they were just there to observe.  :)   By luck we got there just in time to watch Thunder’s pup Smokey run her land series.  Watching Smokey, I saw so much of her father in her, including the way she hunted the marks and the way her tail went straight up when she found her bird!  The cover was high, but I was still able to snap a few pictures.

And Then Found Her Bird.

Yay Smokey!

Where's Smokey? Who says a tan dog can't blend in?

On to water….

We only stayed for a bit of the water portion so we did not get to see Smokey’s water series. Coming into this test Smokey already had two legs toward her title.  I hope she did as well on her water as she did on the land.

UPDATE:  Smokey passed both legs of this test.  She now has three legs towards her Junior Hunter Title.  One more to go!  Congratulations to Smokey and to her Trainer/Handler!

It was a fun afternoon.  We were also able to watch this big boy Chessie run a nice water series.

More Training

The 2 brown dawgs had another training session with the trainer.  They are cleaning up some basics and beginning to work on some lining drills and pile work.  Slow and steady they are progressing…

First Thunder did a walking fetch drill.

Storm attacked her bumpers.

That basic drill done satisfactorily, it was time to see where they were with casting and whistle sits.

Storm Whistle Sit

The next step was to work on force to the pile.   This is a bit of Storm.

These are new drills for Thunder and Storm but by the end of the day they seemed to understand what is expected of them.

There were also a few fun bumpers thrown in the mix.

Come on throw it already!

Storm is Waiting Too

The 2 brown dawgs have a few weeks to work on drills and obedience before they meet the trainer again because the hunt test season is heating up and the trainer is running dogs on the weekends.

Waterworks

Yesterday the 2 brown dawgs went to train with a professional trainer.  It was 90 degrees and it was the first meeting with this trainer, so they worked mostly on water and in the shade.   Thunder and Storm didn’t mind the pond work one bit.  The trainer gave some good tips and drills and will meet them again in about ten days.  We are hoping to enter our Chesapeake Bay Retrievers in the next level hunt tests, (maybe this Fall or next Spring/Summer).  They are also training for the WDX and WDQ that is being held by our Chessie Club in September.

The pond was beautiful and I was able to snap a few pictures.

Someday I will get Storm's water entry.
