This weekend is the Detroit Kennel Club Dog Show which takes place at Cobo Hall in downtown Detroit.  It is a benched show so you can see the different breeds up close and meet the breeders.   As I explain in “The 2 Brown Dawgs Backstory” this is how we decided to get a Chesapeake Bay Retriever and met Thunder and Storm’s breeders.  There are a lot of Chessies entered this weekend, 41 on Saturday and 54 on Sunday.

Thunder and Tule’s pup Smokey is entered both days and Thunder’s mom is entered on Sunday.  Good luck to them!

There will also be various demonstrations at the show including retriever and field training, and herding.  You can watch the breed competition, or obedience, or agility. Also something new for this year, Best in Service Merit Award for canine therapy dogs. Lots of great things to see.

This is a list of some the demonstrations:

AKC Recognition Process -Introduction of FSS Breeds (Foundation Stock Service Breeds)

Motor Cities fox Terrier Club-Terrier Racing – Chasing Lures

Children’s Hospital Pet Therapy Program-Hands on Demonstration

Field Training-Demonstrations by Len Jenkins

Retriever Training-Demonstrations by Jim Miller

The 2 brown dawgs are not entered this weekend because we hope to do some more training if it isn’t too icy.  In the meantime, I’ve done some updating to some of the pages of my blog.  I added some new pictures to Thunder and Storm’s pages and included their backstory.  If you get a chance, take a look around. 🙂
