It won’t be long before we will be thinking about wind chills.  This week we took most of the sunscreens down from around the kennels and put the windscreens up.

Ready For Winter

The windscreens go around the sides and the back of the kennels.  The 2 brown dawgs also got some nice new fluffy bedding.

Cedar Ribbons

As soon as Thunder saw his new bedding, he went right in to fluff it up.

Can't I Just Enjoy My New Bedding?

But wait what is Storm doing?

What Is That Girl Dawg Doing?

We wanted to put cedar ribbons in Storm’s house this year.  Usually she has straw because she eats the cedar.  She isn’t much interested in eating straw.  Buying two kinds of bedding is a pain and with cedar you don’t have to worry about it getting wet and moldy.  Also, the doggies smell nice after snoozing in cedar all day.  🙂  We figured Storm is older now and hopefully she wouldn’t be interested in eating her bedding.  But no, she was eating the cedar ribbons like spaghetti noodles.  So back to straw for her.

Straw

Strom tried it out.

Much Better
I Like It!

I guess each dawg is just used to their own type of bedding.

I Still Like My Cedar Chips

Thunder wasted no time trying the new bedding out.  Believe it or not, he is all curled up inside of his house in the following picture.  🙂

All Tucked In

  1. I love the dawg houses, and the wind baffles are a great idea. I’ve never had a dog who would stay outside, even when we had a big Shepherd/Collie/Husky mix. Great photos!

    1. No, they only spend some of the day outside, except if it is too cold, or too hot, or too windy, or storms expected. 🙂

      1. Fred is a total outdoor dog. Ive thought about doing a house but didnt know what the heck to put in it for him…we are in Texas after all. He loves this huge bed I have out on the patio for him and he will sleep out there in the cold till about 3am and then come inside – they have a doggie door to the house.

  2. Those are some impressive houses! It’s interesting that they prefer different bedding.

  3. Those are really nice apartments. 🙂 Too bad Storm eats that cedar (hee hee); it does smell soooo good.

It’s crazy that you’re in wind chill mode and we’re still wearing shorts. 😀

P.S. Like the new blog background.

    1. I am sure we will be wearing shots again too. We can have crazy weather this time of year.

I am glad that you like the background. 🙂

  4. Storm sounds like Delilah, I think Delilah would eat cedar noodles.

So they stay in their kennels all day while you work? I don’t know how my dogs would like that, but it would sure cut down on Delilah destroying everything. 🙂

    1. For the longest time Storm chewed her house (it is cedar too), and we can’t put a plastic door on her house in winter because she chewed and ate it. She has to be able to see outside. She wants her way…lol.

They usually spend part of each day outside in their kennels, except during bad weather.

  5. Personally, I am not sure how I feel about making dogs sleep outside. I have little dogs though so it is not even an option! Either way, those are some pretty nice digs. I might even like to sleep there 🙂

    1. They spend nights inside, but have been known to snooze the day away in their houses or curled up on the pea gravel during good weather. Sleeping on pea gravel is Storm’s favorite spot. 🙂

  6. Great place to spend part of the day!

  7. That is very cute! Cedar chips sounds like a great idea – especially because it will make those water dogs smell nice 🙂

Those are great doghouses, by the way! Did you guys build those?

  8. Hi Y’all!

Let me tell you, you better not give my Humans any ideas about making me stay outside during the day! I want to be where they are all the time! Those are cute snug houses, but I prefer laying in front of the fireplace.

Course I don’t have to worry, I’ve got them trained. If they put me out and don’t go with me, I just yell my head off ’til they let me inside again. 🙂

    Y’all come back now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  9. I love the dog houses! Leroy loves to lay in straw! Every fall we have to line the backyard with it because of all of the mud and Leroy will lay right where the straw is the thickest. He will lay there all day if I let him! It gets all stuck in his fur and he drags it through the house, but that’s ok!

    1. Storm really likes to lay in straw too. In fact she uses her house more when it has straw (we take it out in the hot summer months). Luckily she doesn’t have the kind of fur that straw sticks in, (pine needles yes, straw no). 🙂
