This was a short week and once again the weekend is here.  But not any weekend, it is the last weekend of the year.  Where did the year go?

I really appreciate all of your wonderful comments and had hoped to reply to them this week, but the short week sort of did me in and I just never had the time.  Sorry.  Instead I decided to do a post to answer a couple of the questions and to follow-up on a couple of the comments from this past week.  So here goes…

Yesterday I wrote about our Christmas Morning Walk and included this picture of the 2 brown dawgs.

All Tired Out

Sam  commented that Thunder and Storm “are mirror images of each other in the napping picture. Synchronized napping!”  Cute comment!  However notice that they are not quite synchronized, because Storm has her trusty Kong bone right next her so she can protect it should some bandit appear and attempt to take it.  😉

On Wordless Wednesday I posted a picture was of one of the pups tugging on another pup’s ear.

Hawk aka BrownDog commented that the nail polish was starting to fade and soon no one will be able to tell the pups apart.  😆  That would be a mess, but be assured that it is re-applied as needed.

Here are a couple of pictures of pups which are marked.

Who am I trying to kid?  I just wanted to share a couple more pictures of the pups.  🙂

Bongo commented that an ear was a nice chew toy.

Good point.  The new pup will probably want nothing to do with all of the nice toys I bought him before Christmas. 😆

On the post titled Pups Getting Out In the World Bassetmomma  asked if we were leaning towards one pup yet?

Well we know it will be a boy and we know it will be brown.  🙂  But other than that, they are all very nice pups.  We will rely a lot on the breeder’s recommendation because she has a lot more experience with pups than we do.  Also, they still have to have temperament tests and be evaluated for conformation, so it will be a little while longer before we know.

Jodi Stone asked if we are planning on taking one of the dogs interested in the wing?

We definitely want a pup who shows interest in a wing.  When we decided to get a pup the only thing we said that we wanted was for it to be real “birdie”.  We asked our trainer what we should look for in a pup and he said, just get one that is “birdie”, because you can overcome a lot if the dog is birdie.  So interest in wings will tell us a lot.

This is a pup from Thunder’s Litter following a wing on a stick.  (Could even be Thunder, I just can’t tell.)

Oh A Wing!

But we only tried the wing with a couple of the pups, and I am willing to bet that they will all be interested in the wing.  Then the choice will really be narrowed down…not!  They are all great puppies.

Maybe This Guy?

Jodi Stone also asked about their eye color.  She noticed that a couple of them had blue eyes and wanted to know if “they normally have blue eyes or are they similar to humans in the fact that they can change by a certain age?”

Chessie Pups Have Blue Eyes

Good observation Jodie!  Chessie pups are born with blue eyes and then they change to a blueish green and finally to yellow or amber.  You can see in this picture from Thunder’s litter that the pups’ eyes are starting to change color.  The eye color on the pup to the far right is almost green.  These pups are around 6 weeks old.

Thunder's Littermates

Finally on the post titled Christmas Yet To Come Jodi asked how we can pick just one pup?  All the pups are spoken for so we have to pick just one.  🙂  It is too bad it is winter, because it would have been nice to get them in a pool of water and see which ones are interested.  I can’t be sure, but I think the pup hogging the pool is Thunder because he always thought every pool was just for him!

Thunder's Litter

The pups will start going to their forever homes in just two short weeks.  It won’t be long!

I wasn’t able to get the Christmas Eve training pictures up this week so I will post them next week.  Of course we plan to train again tomorrow so I will probably have two training posts next week.  But most importantly, I am very grateful to have received another award from our friend at Misty Shores Chesapeakes  and I can’t wait to share that next week too.

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Thank you for answering all my questions. 🙂 The picture you posted of Thunder’s litter with the changing eye colors was just about perfect. Starting with the pup on the far left whose eyes were blue and then the middle pup was slightly changed and the last pup was almost all the way green. You couldn’t have picked a better picture! At first I thought my eyes were deceiving me. 🙂

Thanks for the shout out and Happy New Year to you and the 2 Brown Dawgs!

  2. I can’t wait to see which puppy comes to live with you! I am living through you in this! I have been following Sherman’s pups through pictures and I have them narrowed down to 3 of them that I would choose based on looks alone. Not that it matters because I’m not getting one, but still it’s fun! Hope you have a great New Year!

  3. We’re back from our Christmas visits and even with all the catching up I have to do, I just couldn’t resist reading your latest post in anticipation of puppy pictures and news! 😀 Great post and great pics too. I can’t wait to see which puppy you choose and what you name him. I’ll be back to blogging next week – see you then! 🙂

  4. Can’t wait to see which puppy you bring home. I love Chessie golden eyes but it would be super cool if one time the eyes stayed blue…although I know that would probably disqualify them in the show ring. Hope you had a great Christmas and that you have a happy new year!

  5. Oh my goodness gracious, now y’all are going to have to stop posting these pictures before mom get’s the fever!! We are at our doggie limit for pete’s sake!!! Tooooo dog-gone cute!!

    AROOOOOF!

  7. Love the puppy pictures! Happy New Year! I can’t believe tomorrow is the last day of the year.

  8. All those puppies are just so adorable. Thunder and Storm sure look comfy all curled up on their beds after their nice walk. Enjoyed this post very much. You all have a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Hugs and nose kisses
