It was sunny, but windy for Saturday’s training.  The wind made it feel colder than the temperature read on the thermometer.  I put on my rain pants and rain coat just to block the wind.  A nice sized group turned out and since there were three bird boys, the dogs ran triples.  Hooray!  Our dogs need triples badly.  Considering that they have not run many multiple marks over the winter, they did very well.  It got a little tougher for them the more they ran in the field, but on the whole they did very well.

I only drew one diagram (not to scale of course) just to give an idea of the kinds of triples the dogs ran.  The numbers indicate the order the bumpers were thrown, but the dogs could pick them up in any order.

Even Freighter had his turn.  Not triples. 😆  Just some retrieves.  We still need to work on him coming back with the bumper.  🙂

All three dogs had a fun training day.  If the weather stays warm this week, the big dogs just might get in the pond next Saturday.  🙂

  1. Looks like Saturday’s training was very successful. What a nice sit Freighter was doing there. He must have loved being out there with the big dogs! Great pictures!

  2. Freighter is picking up good retrieving skills fast! I love the picture of him waiting and watching so intently – just like the “grownups” in his family! 🙂

  3. It looks like such a beautiful day… but wind doesn’t show up in pictures.
Freighter is getting so big 🙂

  4. I noticed Freighter is on leash, do you throw the bumper and then walk/run out with him for the retrieve?

I think they all look very happy!!

    1. Freighter is on a check cord. That is to keep him from picking up the bumper and running away with it. You can use the check cord to gently reel the pup in should he go in the opposite direction with the bumper. The trainer keeps the check cord in his hand at all times. Freighter has sit down pretty well so the trainer can now move away a bit to toss the bumper. So far Freighter has nice drive to the bumper. It is coming back with it that his difficult for him in that environment (too many smells/distractions). We are using treats to speed up his return.

  5. The wind was bitter on Saturday! They all did a great job and seeing Freighter already getting into it is great! He sure is growing fast! Great pics!

    Your friends,
    the collies and chuck 🙂

  6. Awesome! They both did so well. After reading all your posts, I can really see how this all comes together for a competition. It’s so cool to see such happy, thinking dogs!

  7. I love seeing pics of you doggies in action — very impressive! 🙂

    Woofs & hugs, <3

  8. Freighter is so cute! I love looking at all your pictures and comparing my Chessie to yours! Yours all look so much bigger than our Ash. My son keeps saying that she was the runt of the litter 🙂 Maybe so. . . Have a great day!

  9. Hi! What a great training day with sunshine! Freighter is so beautiful and looks very concentrated to his new exercise!

  10. Great training day. It is so cool to see each of them work, however, Frieghter still makes us giggle so we really like seeing him work. Especially the back end shots.
