It feels more like summer.  Temperatures have been in the 80’sF with no rain.  We have been out enjoying the unseasonal weather and doing some water training.  Last year we were not in the ponds until April because there was still ice on them.  This year it is a whole different story.

It has been a great spring to have a puppy because he has been getting in some nice swimming this week.  I am sure we will return to winter before summer officially starts, but until we do, we are taking advantage of the warm weather.

Here are some pictures of Freighter training last night.  I threw a few land marks for him.  The first time I have thrown bumpers for him.  🙂  His retrieving is really coming along.  He was nice and quick to the bumper, scooped it up and brought it back.  Darrin suggested we use a treat to reward him when he gets back to his handler as a way to speed up his pick up and return.  It seems to be working like a charm.

After we ran a few land marks we moved to the water.

Working On That Water Entry

Have you been having nice weather?  Have you been able to get outside to enjoy it?  I hope so.

I have fallen behind on reading and commenting on your blogs.  I hope to catch up over the next couple of days.  I haven’t forgotten about doing a post on Dog Show basics, but I just have not had time to write it.  Hopefully I can get to it next week.  Tomorrow I will have some pictures of Thunder and Storm from training this week.

  1. Awww What a good boy!!! We are enjoying the same weather here in Texas – I dont think we even had what we call a “winter” yet lol.

  2. What great puppy energy, isn’t it great!! Freighter is having such a good time 🙂 yes, we have been having great weather too for some early swimming 🙂

  3. What terrific pictures! Freighter sure is a natural isn’t he! This warm weather is the perfect time to get in some extra training with him. We’re having the same warm temperatures here. 🙂

  4. It’s amazing – he’s so young, but really looking like a Pro 🙂 We’re getting that gorgeous weather as well, which is probably the only explanation for me rolling my ankle and being unable to go on long walks with Gwynn the past two weeks 😉 Nothing like great weather for your body to tell you to sit on the couch with an icepack!

  5. It’s been unseasonably warm here too. I wouldn’t mind except for the fact that it probably means we’ll have an unbearable summer, which I can’t tolerate. I’m indoors more during 90+ degree humid summer days than I am when it’s freezing out! 🙁

Freighter’s doing beautifully, love the leg extension when he’s at full tilt. I’ve said it before – he’s a natural. 🙂 I also like your new header photo!

  6. He looks fantastic, I am envious of the retrieving work you do and of the awesome area you have for training. Keep up the great work.

Our field is once again being taken by the Lacrosse team. Every Monday and Wednesday which is typically my ‘walk the dogs’ days and Saturday mornings. Every week until June 10th!

We have been having incredible weather here as well, even with the windows open and the ceiling fan on last night, I woke up sweating!

  7. I can’t believe how big he has gotten just over the past week!
I can’t believe the weather we are having either! I actually had to turn the air conditioner on yesterday to get some of the heat out because the house was way too hot for the dogs! I don’t think I have ever, ever used the air conditioner in March!

  8. Freighter looks like he is ready to go big time! YAY! The weather here has been beautiful!

  9. Look at him go!! He looks like a pro already!! Curious about the lead he’s on, do you just hold the other end in your hand? What kind of handle does it have? Mum’s looking for a long one for me, but one that’s safe and won’t hurt her hand if I reach the end……

We’ve had a crazy warm winter, now we’re having a mix of Sunny and rain days, I think we have some more rain this weekend, but then Mum is hoping we will be done as she likes it if I can go into the garden whenever I want, me too!! 🙂

    Have a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  10. Great fetch! What fun water and all, its threatened snow here yesterday! Just stopped by to say hello!

  11. That Freighter is amazing. I noticed the lead still on him as he cam out of the water. So I am guessing even in the water he must have it on. I would get all tangled in the thing. But then again I am not as good at being in water as he is.
    Blessings,
    Goose

  12. In any season, the pictures are a lot of fun! Your boy is certainly growing up and very handsome!!

Good weather here in northern Virginia and is supposed to continue for another couple of days.

  13. Run Freighter Run! Swim Freighter Swim!
Enjoy the weather. It has been nice here in Massachusetts too. Usually we are still paw-deep in snow around this time of year.

  14. We have been having amazing weather! Very summer-like. In fact, better than a usual Nova Scotia summer! But I fear it won’t last. I love all the green grass you have. Everything is still brown, brown, brown here. Once the rainy season starts I am sure that will change!

It looks like Freighter is turning into a brilliant retriever!

  15. Freighter looks like he’s coming along nicely. Our temperatures have warmed up to almost 70, but a far cry from your 80’s.

  16. Oh – have you changed the look of your blog again? We like it! 😛

And gosh – Freighter is really not looking like a “puppy” anymore but more like a miniature dog…they grow up so fast! He looks like he’s having a blast!

ps. great video of the “long swim”!

  17. I know what you mean about being behind on reading – I’m trying to catch up a bit myself. Great pictures of Freighter! It looks like he’s catching on amazingly – even, perhaps, better than average?

  18. What a good boy!!! And we have been having beautiful weather here too, although it rained for the past 3 days straight (thankfully it stopped today … the pups were going crazy!!).
