This week has flown by and here it is Friday again.  The brown dawgs have a test starting today.  I won’t be there to get pictures because I have to work.  🙁  If they run tomorrow, of course I will be there to cheer them on.  🙂

It is a good thing that we had the two training days last weekend because we got very little in this week due to the weather.  The extreme heat earlier in the week made it impossible to train after work.  Once the heat broke, we got storms and some much-needed rain.  Oh well.  Training this summer has been in fits and spurts.

The training day last Sunday was a Club training day that was open to members and guests.  It was set up as a land triple with a couple of blinds.  The junior dogs started and ran the marks as three singles.  It took forever to get through the junior dogs.  The senior dogs ran the three marks as a double and a single and ran one or both blinds.  They moved much faster, but by the time they got to the Master dogs it was late and it was hot.  It was decided just to run the triple and even that was tough.

Club training days can be a bit of a challenge.  It is a lot of hurry up and wait if you are running a Master dog, but it is important to help those with dogs at the lower levels especially if they don’t have a lot of experience.  We did not have much access to this when we were starting out so I am glad our Club puts these kinds of days on.  There are a lot of experienced trainers in this Club and many members are also hunt test judges.  It is great to train with them when we get a chance.

The triple was in cover with bumpers rather than birds and all-in-all we were happy with Thunder and Storm’s work.  I got some nice pictures and I did a little extra processing on them.  I like how they came out.

Storm first:

Thunder next:

Have a nice weekend!

  1. Friday comes so fast but doesn’t stay long:)
I am curious, when you train in hot weather how do you cool the dogs down? If of course there is no pond? or is there always a pond? Does one of the dogs do better in the heat than the other?

    1. Thunder seems to have a harder time in the heat just because of his size. They are both in fairly good condition, but the heat can still get to them. We have been doing a lot of water work this summer. They are both fairly solid in the water and a bit shaky on land because of it. If we train land then we really shorten the marks and don’t repeat. We don’t stay out long. This is going to be another tough week!

  2. Look at you guys go!! I think there should be a rule that you don’t have to work any time you need to take pictures of your Dogs!! Tee Hee

    Have fun guys,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

    1. That would be a good rule, except I am self-employed…lol. I had to take a day off I did not expect to earlier in the month so I was a bit behind.

  3. Good luck this weekend. The Club training last Sunday sounds a lot more hectic but worth it. I love the pictures of the brown dawgs running who knew their ears could fly so much! Have a great weekend! 🙂

  4. DAng it all, I hate my copmuter. I can’t get any of the pictures in your post to show……

Goos luck and have a great weekend.

Maybe I’ll go to someone elses house to read everyones posts.

  5. It’s nice that your club makes an effort to help the newbies along. Good luck with the test this….if it’s anything like here, you’ve got some nice weather for today.

    1. We had really good weather for the test (Friday and Saturday). Sunday it was boiling again, but thankfully we were done on Saturday.

  6. The pictures wee great and Good Luck on the Tests. Sorry I’m behind our internet was out too with the storms.

  7. I know waiting can be hard – especially on Storm and Thunder – but I think it is great that you help the less experienced out. Everyone has to start somewhere and it is a good feeling to share something you love with others.
