Once again we are joining Jodi at Heart Like A Dog for Follow-up Friday.

Jodi’s explanation:  For those new to the blog, my Follow-up Friday provides me with an opportunity to update or revise a post from the previous week.

You know sometimes you post about something and you need an update but it doesn’t warrant a whole blog.  Or sometimes someone made a comment that really resonated with you.  Yup, Follow-Up Friday baby!

Thanks To Heart Like A Dog

On Wednesday I wrote about poor pitiful Thunder.

Yes, I Am Pitiful

Finn wanted to know if Thunder had to wear the horrid cone of shame.  Unfortunately he wants to lick his cast, so yep he has to wear it when we cannot watch him.  He got a lot of experience wearing one last year so he is OK with it.  He is not happy, but he tolerates the thing.

Not This Thing Again!

lexy3587 commented that it is better to miss one season than do serious damage and miss more seasons.  That was the ortho vet’s thinking as well.  🙂

snoopys@snoopysdogblog wanted to know if Thunder could get his cast signed.  I suppose so, but we haven’t done that yet.  😆  I did request a camo colored cast but they only had white.

MyBrownNewfies commented that whenever she has had to wrap her newf Sherman’s leg he acts like it is impossible to walk.  Thunder does not seem to have that problem and has been trying to break the rules and run and jump.

Maybe it is the way the cast is put on that makes it easy for him, but then again it may be that he has had a lot of practice.  If I had a dollar for every time crazy dog has injured a front paw/leg, I would be able to afford his vet bills.  He has cracked nails so low that he had to have them removed at the vet.  He has cut pads, more than once.  This picture is from 201o when he had a particularly bad cut to his back pad and it took forever to heal.  We were wrapping his bandage in plastic for weeks and weeks.

Thunder With Yet Another Bandage

So you have to keep him out of the water huh? And next you’ll be teaching us all how to nail jelly to the ceiling! Good luck!

An apt observation Flo.  😆

Better keep an eye on Freighter….he may just get bopped with Thunder’s cast if he’s training and Thunder isn’t

He would have to catch Freighter first.  He might get close, but I doubt it.  😆

You Can’t Catch Me!

Thank you for all of the nice get well wishes for Thunder.  We appreciate it.  Here he is getting some TLC from his grandson Freighter.

Hope You Feel Better Soon Grandpa

Have a nice weekend!

  1. Okay, I thought the cast picture was pitiful, but that one with the cone……awwwwwe! I sure hope it heals up soon. It sounds like you’ve had quite a time with him and his legs. What a sweet picture of him and Freighter sleeping together. 🙂

  2. Oh poor Thunder, he does look pitiful. 🙂 I am so commiserating with you on keeping them quiet. If I had a nickle for every time I said, no running or no jumping, well I wouldn’t be able to afford their vet bills, but I would be able to buy lunch. 🙂

Here’s hoping to a speedy recovery and thank you for participating in FUF.

  3. He-he- so are you saying my dog is just a wimp?:)))) Just kidding!
Too bad you couldn’t get duck stickers for his cast:)))
Hope you have a great weekend!

  4. Hoping you heal real fast! Sweet pic of you two together…love helps heal! Rest up and here’s to a super speedy recuperation!

  5. Oh no buddy – The Cone of Shame!! Doh!! Maybe we could all leave paw prints on your cast? 🙂

    Wags to all,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  6. Eek, how did I miss Thunder’s cast? Poor guy 🙁

Elka broke a toe two summers ago. They didn’t give her a cast or anything, assuming rightly that for such a small thing, it would agitate her more than just to let it go. We just had to “Keep her quiet” for weeks….oy.

  7. Poor Thunder. If it isn’t bad enough you can’t hunt, but you have to wear one of those cones too? Tell those peoples to take off work and do nothing but supervise you so you don’t have to wear it!

  8. Obviously Thunder goes all out fot what ever he wants to do and **** the consequences. Course like everyone else he really hates the injuries and the weeks of healing:(

  9. Awwwwe…poor Thunder! We hope your leg gets better and the cast is off real soon! We want to sign your cast too! How cool would that be!!!!!

  10. It’s the keeping quiet thing that is toughest, don’t ya think. I had to stay locked in my room all day long, it was cruel and unusual punishment. Hope you get well soon dude, But take it easy too.

  11. I guess I’d better watch my mischief. I wouldn’t want to end up in a cast like Thunder. I hope you get well soon Thunder.

  12. Oh no! We’re behind again and missed the posts about poor Thunder! Have just caught up now. Glad it wasn’t some terrible accident but still, must be so frustrating for him. Although he seems to be coping with it fairly well! 😉 Hope it all works and he is out of the cast soon!
