Poor Storm.  While Freighter was off hunting last weekend, she was having a hard time.  No pups but she was nesting anyway.  She tried to make a nest wherever she went.

She tried to make one downstairs.

She Spent Her Time Scrunching Up Dog Blankets

She made one upstairs.

Another Scrunched Up Blanket

She even did a number on the side of her dog house trying to make a nest.

Oh No

Nestle felt sorry for her and made her own nest on the bed.

Warm And Cozy

Unfortunately Storm lost dog blanket privileges until this passes.

Can’t Wait To Be Back To Normal

She also had some milk come in with this false pregnancy so we withheld food and water for 24 hours to try to dry her up.  Storm does not like to miss a meal, but it seems to have done the trick.  The milk is gone.  She still wants to nest, but we are trying to get her mind off it.

Farpoint Retrievers started fall/winter group hunt test training last Saturday.  Tomorrow we plan to be there.  Enough sitting around for Storm.  She needs to get back in the groove and get her mind off the puppies that never came.  Freighter needs to work on his handling so we will take a private lesson before the group begins to work on that.

Thunder got his cast off yesterday.  He is still on rest, so no training for him.  Hopefully he can get back to it in a few weeks.  We will wait and see.

Have a good weekend!

  1. Poor Storm indeed. How sad, that she’s desperately trying to nest when no puppies are coming. Hope getting her out and about helps get her mind off this quickly.

    1. It is difficult to live with an intact female. Storm has had false pregnancies before, but this is far and away the worst one. It is sad to watch her.

  2. Poor girl. When Dakota got instincts, she’d collect stuffies to cuddle with. Then the other guys would steal her “babies” and run off with them. It looks like Storm has Nestle for a support group.

    1. We hid any soft toys. We we warned about not letting her have them because she might make them into her babies. Glad we didn’t have to deal with that too. 😆

  3. Poor Stormy……hopefully this will pass soon.
Can’t wait to start some training. I have some Wedding thinds to do this and next weekend then we will be at training on the 17th. See you all then.

  4. I’m really sorry Storm, Lexie has had some false pregnancies and I know how hard they are for her. Hopefully getting out and doing some hunting and. Having fun will make you feel better. Have a good weekend!

  5. Awww, I feel bad for Storm! Hopefully you’ll be able to get her mind of things for a bit, even though I am sure that is difficult! Have a great weekend!

  6. Poor Storm, that must just about break your heart. 🙁 I remember how sad I felt when I find out Delilah had had a litter of puppies, suddenly it made sense to me what she was constantly on the lookout for. Broke my heart.

I hope this passes quickly for her. Good news about Thunder’s cast though! Have you noticed any limping?

    1. The vet warned us that there would be some limping at first. The tendons need to stretch and that is the reason Thunder is on rest. He felt it would take about 2 weeks for them to stretch out. He has a recheck in 2 weeks. I will update.

  7. Feel so bad for Storm. But hopefully getting back into the grove of things will take her mind off it.
    Blessings,
    Goose

  8. Oh poor Storm, I hope you’re back to normal soon buddy!!

Great to hear about Thunder getting his cast off – Yay!!

    Wags to all,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  9. Yay for Thunder! Hopefully things just keep improving for him in the next few weeks. He must be so relieved to be able to move more again, even if he is still on rest.

It’s fascinating how Storm’s instincts have taken over. Hopefully a little time away will do the trick. Hormones are no fun at all.

  10. I didn’t realise the false pregnancy would affect her so much. Also… my dog builds many nests of that sort … maybe he thinks he’s pregnant 😛
hope Thunder and Storm both recover quickly 🙂

  11. Storm we are hoping that all is well. Not fun to miss a meal.

  12. PS – love the beautiful pics of Storm & Nestle, too! 🙂

  13. Hi Y’all!

Oh Storm…maybe there is something to be said for being “neutered”…no frustrations!

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  14. Oh poor Storm! Hope she is feeling better soon. I didn’t know you had a black kitty? Nestle is beautiful!

  15. We have been gone for so long. So much seems to have happened with you guys. It sounds like both Storm and Thunder and going through some tough times. We look forward to catching up and I hope things get back to normal soon for you guys.

  16. Poor Storm, wise to hide the toys because I’m sure she would have loved to have latex, or fluffy stuffed babies. Riva had one favorite latex toy that she had to have in the whelping box at all times, I don’t think she thought it was a baby just liked having it with her until her bratty children ripped it up 🙂
