This 'N That 3

Firearm deer season closed on November 30th.  Grouse reopened on December 1.  Storm got out for a little hunting last weekend, but did not even have a flush.  Grouse have been scare this season.  Of course the weather did not help.  It was another damp foggy day.  It is better to have dry weather to hunt grouse.

We lost all of the snow up north which is why there was fog.  Fog and rain.  I tried to get out to take a few pictures but the weather was so bad that I didn’t end up with many.

This time of year I don’t have many pictures because the days are so short.  Any training is done before I get home from work because it is dark by the time I get home.  Our Saturday training sessions are on hold right now because our trainer is still having some health issues.  Get well soon Darrin!  The dogs are working on some obedience in the basement, but that doesn’t make for interesting pictures.

With hunt test training is on hold, Freighter is working on being a show dog.  He is learning how to be stacked and to stand still.  His breeder has offered to help work with him.  Thank you Cindy!  He also needs lots of practice letting people checking his bite.  That part is not a favorite for him.

We have scheduled the surgery to remove Freighter’s stubborn dew claw for the week before New Year’s.  The recovery time should not be too long.  There will probably be a couple of stitches so a couple of weeks maybe.

I am sure it won’t keep Freighter from being mischievous too long.

  1. Loving your tree. We too hate these short days and look forward to spring and more daylight. Have a terrififc Thursday.
    Best wishes Molly

    1. Thanks Molly. That is the only tree I put up this year, because…well…puppy. It is the one at the cabin. The place is very small and the tree is too. 🙂

  2. Our poor dogs are bored with out our training. I am notsure what to do next with Grace and I am afraid to reck her or teach bad habits. So we too are on training wait. I wish there was something we could to to help Darrin out. 🙁
Your posts are great keep up the good work. Maybe we will see Freighter in Novi???

    1. We are at the same point with Freighter. He has some handling basics, but we need guidance to move ahead. Don’t want to have to undo something. He does get some drill work. The dogs also get marks when we can, so you might want to try stretching Grace out on marks. They will be longer at the next level so it doesn’t hurt to work those, doubles and triples. Also I would work with your boy. Marks, marks, marks for him. The more the better.

Freighter at Novi…maybe? That is a bit away and will depend on how he works and coat….well you know how that goes with young ‘uns….lol.

  3. When I saw the top picture in my google reader I thought it was Delilah at first. 😉 I despise winter because of the exercise options available. I lost a lot of flexibility at work so I can’t go home on lunch to walk the dogs. Therefore, we do boring 15 minute walks around the block most nights, which is why I try and do some classes in the winter, at least they get some kind of stimulation.

I’m thinking you might have trouble keeping Freighter ‘quiet.’ 🙂

    1. We are in between classes. Most of ours don’t start up until January. There is a drop in conformation class that starts up in January, that is definitely on our list. I also hope to put a CGC on Freighter now that it has become a title. But we also hope to send him back to training in the spring. 🙂

  4. I hope Freighter’s surgery goes well (I’m sure it will) and that he’s back to his mischievous old self in no time! 🙂

  5. Hey Freighter,

Glad to hear you won’t be out of Mischief for too long buddy!! Good job being careful around that Christmas Tree, I think the humans get all sulky if they get knocked over!! 🙂

    Wags to all,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  6. The Newfs are bored too. It gets dark too early, they hate the new time Dad is always late to them and we have 4 – 5 days of pouring rain. Nothing to do, no walks and it’s the weekend without a woods walk. I know how hard it is to keep them busy, there is just nothing they can do in the house:(
