We took a long weekend and went up to our cabin.  We were joined by Thunder and Freighter’s breeders.  Muzzleloader deer season began on Friday and the guys wanted to try their luck.  In our area it is a short season which only lasts about 10 days.

Friday the weather was beautiful and warm.  The snow was starting to melt and the road was getting a bit icy.  Freighter was getting antsy from sitting around so I decided to try to take him for a walk despite the ice.  Before we left, we had a little discussion about not pulling the leash while walking on ice.  At one point during our walk there was a big hill.  We had another discussion about not pulling on the leash when walking down the icy hill.  Freighter was a very good boy on our walk and we made it with no slips on the ice.

I’ll Walk Nicely

Just as we were trying to make our way down the icy hill, the crazy mailman was coming toward us in his car.  I thought we were going to have to jump in the snow bank to avoid him, but he fish-tailed away from us so we continued on.  I guess the mailman has a tight schedule.  🙂

The warm weather meant that we got fog Saturday morning.  Saturday afternoon we got a bit of snow and then rain which made things very slick.  We couldn’t really walk the dogs or let them run on the ice.  We had a good time hanging out chatting while the dogs napped.

The guys spent most of Saturday sitting out in the cold wet forest hoping a buck would wander by their blinds.  No luck for them as they only saw some does right at sunset.  They were happy to see some deer after being out all day long.

We ate really well this weekend.  Cindy brought a ton of yummy food including a tasty venison ham.  Thank you Cindy for making such wonderful meals!  Also, Cindy doesn’t mind airing dogs in the rain.  A big benefit for me since I am not thrilled to do it.  🙂

The brown dawgs were very happy about having company especially since it was Cindy and Gary.  The dawgs were on their best behavior.  (Well, aside from the dogs all trying to hump one another.)  We really had a nice time and hope to do it again soon.

Of course the bad weather meant that my 3G was not working.  I tried to read some blogs and post comments.  That did not go so well.  I think I lost more than I posted.  Please bear with me as I try to catch up this week.

This is a Blog Hop.  Thanks to  Alfie’s BlogSnoopy’s Dog Blog, Luna, a Dog’s Life, and My Brown Newfies for setting up this hop.  Please go to any of the sponsoring blogs to find out who else has been mischievous.

  2. It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend with friends despite the weather. Well, and the dogs humping one another. hehehe Cindy sounds like a wonderful cook. I’ve never heard of venison ham.

  3. Are you talking about YOU slipping on the ice? Have you heard of YakTrax? They are like tire chains for your feet. S and I love them.

  4. Did the dogs hear any of the black powder weapons being fired?:I would imagine that it is a very different sound to a shotgun.

  5. Sometimes those are the best, most relaxing weekends. I’m glad you and Freighter came to an understanding about the ice. 🙂
