Showing Up–For Treats

In preparation for his first show this weekend, Freighter attended another drop-in Conformation class.  The class was packed.  I think I counted 20 dogs.  These classes are always very crowded leading up to a show.  With so many dogs it meant more time practicing stacking and not as much moving, (although the dogs did get to move).  Freighter has pretty much figured out that if he stands or moves he gets treats, so while show dog stuff isn’t a duck, it isn’t bad either.  He was full of energy and did more jumping this week.  He was good at standing for inspection the first time around, but very wiggly the second time.  We will just have to cross our fingers, light a candle and hope that he behaves enough to get through it this weekend.  :)

Got A Treat?

Got A Treat?

In addition to Freighter, Storm is entered on Saturday.  I really hope to practice taking pictures with my camera, but I may have to hold dogs.  Freighter’s brother and sister and mom are also entered.  I mentioned before that while this show has been well attended in the past, there are not that many class dogs this time around.  That is not a bad thing as far as Freighter and Storm are concerned.  Neither have much patience for standing around.

Best of luck to all who are entered!

Tomorrow some follow-up.

    • Thanks. I have been trying different settings in different lighting. Also, I got a lot of pictures of other people passing in front of my camera because the class was so crowded.

  1. Oh good luck!! I still think for his age he does quite well, but I say that all the time.

I cannot get Delilah to stand still while I slip her halter on her, she would never work in the show ring!

Will there be ribbons? You know how I love pictures of dogs with ribbons. :-)

  2. Thanks for stopping by the other day! We are ok, just taking a little break but Finn is doing good and is up to her usual shinnanagins! Hope you all had a wonderful new Years too!

  3. I didn’t know storm and freighter were in shows, that is soo cool, they sure do lead a busy happy ful-filled life don’t they. And they are beautiful, I have never heard of Chesapeaks before I met these guys. I hope they do well!!!:)

  4. Good luck!

What kind of a dog is that behind Freighter? At a glance, I said “Hey, that’s a Doberman!” and then became immediately unsure >.>

    • There were Dobermans in the class. In fact the instructor has a Dobe. :) I did not ask, but I am pretty sure it is a German Pinscher. It was too small for a Dobe and too big for a Min Pin so that is my best guess.

  5. I wondered German Pinscher and then I was afraid to commit!

Neat that the instructor has a Dobe :D Maybe my next Doberman will be a showgirl (or boy)! I’ve got working in mind, anyway.

    • There were a lot of different breeds there. I had to dig deep to identify them. :)

The instructor had a Dobe that died recently. She put obedience and agility titles on her. The one she has now is 10 months old and in training. :)

  6. Good luck this weekend! We’ll be cheering for you from Ohio! Conformation classes have always been tough for Leroy. He just doesn’t like all the standing around and he gets bored with me adjusting his stack all the time!

Good luck with taking pictures at the show. It’s hard. I always feel like a something because I’m trying to get the perfect shot, and the indoor lighting can be tricky sometimes. Good Luck!!
