I love taking pictures of the dogs in motion.  I think I got some nice pictures of Thunder training last Saturday.  The light was just right and I was in good position to get these action shots.  What do you think?

When we moved closer to the pond we scared some geese off the back side of it.  Luckily I had my camera ready.

Finally, I am overdue saying “thank you” for some awards.

I would like to thank Sand Spring Chesapeakes for awarding us the Leibster Award.  If you haven’t met these Chessies, stop over and say “hi”.  Two of the younger Chessies are training for hunt tests just like the brown dawgs.

I’d also like to thank Misty Shores Chesapeakes for awarding us the Blog of the Year Award.  If you haven’t met these Chessies, stop over and say “hello”.  Titian is training for hunt tests and Maya has been strutting her stuff in the show ring.

Finally, Thunder is having a dental cleaning today so he missed out on breakfast this morning and will be spending the day at the vet.  I am sure he is thrilled about this.  🙂

  1. Wonderful action shots. They really show the power of Thunder. I’m very impressed as I really battle with this type of photography (well, most types, really 🙂 but particularly action).
Give Thunder big hugs from all of us once he gets back from his starvation and vet visit.

  2. Especially love the pix where Thunder’s ears are up and so are the back legs – those action pix are just great! Geese are cool too!! Congrats on your well deserved awards too – we agree! Wow only 5 more days until babies-how’s Storm? Thanks for hosting the hop too!

  3. Great shots! Love them. And well done on the awards! It’s great that you get recognised for your hard work. Love your blog, so I’m really happy for you:) I really like this’n’that Thursdays.

  4. Great shots! Mom is working on action shots in manual mode, sometimes they are great, sometimes a blur…she needs more camera classes I think! Poor Thunder with the teeth cleaning! Hope I never have to do that because I dislike going to the vet and I do all that teeth brushing stuff so it better not be for nothing!

    1. Thunder’s teeth ate not really that bad, but he is 7 now and has a bit of gum overgrowth. (Our Golden got that too as he aged.) We want the vet to clean under the overgrowth and just check his teeth generally. Then he can have them redone when he is neutered in a year or two. 🙂

  5. Those were great motion shots..you can define his muscles in his back legs. The geese in flight were stunning. Good luck to Thunder today at his dental cleaning tonight enjoy no duck breath. Your welcome on the award!

  6. I think you “done good”! These are some fantastic action shots…the kind that some of us are never lucky enough to capture…

  7. I’ve never been able to take actions shots of Doggy, I’m too slow pulling the cellphone out.
Thunder will have shiny teeth and refreshing breath by the end of the day, that’s nice.

  8. Your photos are amazing!! I think you did get some great action shots. 🙂 Dental cleaning, eh? I have to schedule one for Sampson and I have to say I’m a bit nervous about it. I bet Thunder didn’t like missing his breakfast one bit!

  9. Oh wow! Those are some GREAT action shots! I’m super impressed.

  10. Those are wonderful shots! Thunder really knows his stuff–beautiful dog in action. Thanks for hosting This n That Hop!

  11. Those are some great action shots of Thunder! Love the bright orange collar on his chestnut brown fur, it’s a great combination. I hope Thunder has a smooth dental cleaning.

  12. Hi Y’all!
I wasn’t happy about having my teeth cleaned either but the dentist found my infected tooth and removed it. That has made a huge difference in my life and health.

    Y’all come back now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  13. Congratulations on your wards you do a great job 🙂 the pictures are excellent, you can see every movement and every ripple of their muscles like watching in slow motion. You are doing a terrific job 🙂

  14. I think your shots are fantastic!!
Congratulations on your awards, you deserve them.
I bet Thunder would have rather been retrieving than getting his teeth cleaned 🙂

  15. Holy moly, I obviously haven’t been around in forever, there’s two of you now!!

    Nubbin wiggles,
    Oskar

  16. Oh wow, those are WONDERFUL pictures! I’m jealous.

One of the people on the Doberman board has a Viszla puppy who just had her first Junior hunt test (I think? needs 2 more for the first title, does that sound right?) and I thought of you and how much I’ve learned from reading your blog.

    1. Yes you need 4 “legs” for title which means you have to pass the test four times. Viszla’s usually run pointer tests which are a bit different than our retriever tests. They use pheasants and are in fields and run with another dog, I believe. I don’t think they have a water portion in their tests. Check out some videos on youtube, they are pretty neat tests.

  17. Wonderful photos! The 4th one down where Thunder has the duck in his mouth would make a fantastic subject for an artist to draw from. I’m an artist, but I’m not sure I could pull it off. I can draw Thunder with the duck well enough in colored pencil, but I could never come close to the quality paintings of sporting dogs by Ross B. Young. Do you mind if I give it a try and draw from your photo? I would just be drawing it in order to challenge myself so I am not begging for commission work or anything. If I do it and it comes out well enough, I’d be happy to give you a photo copy of the art as a thank you for giving me permission to draw from your photo.

    1. I would love for you to give it a try. Thunder is honored. I can’t wait to see how it comes out. Good luck. 🙂
