Monday Mischief–Photo Bomb

Thunder really doesn’t want to go near a Canada goose. They are vicious birds. Not what you would call goodwill ambassadors.

True, however as Storm showed us last Fall, a goose is no match for a Chessie.

Read about her battle with the goose here.

Misty Shores Chesapeakes asked:

Did he look up when the goose flew up?

No.  Actually, he was focused on the blind with the duck he was sent to pick up.  🙂

Fun With Freighter

Storm and her pups are doing well.  Sorry, I don’t have any pictures.  Here is a picture of Storm from March instead.

I understand Freighter had a tough week of training.  That is the way it goes some times with a young doggie.

Wordless Wednesday–New Bed

Thunder loves his new bed.  This is the first really puffy bed he has ever had.  He is 7 now and I noticed that he is not as comfortable sleeping on the floor as he used to be.  Once he gets on the puffy bed, he is out.

Of course every time he got up last weekend, that pup Freighter would get right on his bed.  Thunder would just look at me like: “Aren’t you going to kick that kid off?”

This ‘N That Thursday

Why did Thunder have to sit out?

He had dental done on Thursday and had to have some gum overgrowth removed.  The vet wanted to allow it to heal before he was out picking things up in his mouth.  He did get out for a training day on Wednesday so he did not sit out long.

Many of you asked about the corn stalks and whether they bothered the dogs’ feet.  Many times when the dogs hunt pheasant, it can be in cut corn.  Corn has gaps between the stalks and as you can see in these pictures it is pretty broken down from the winter.  Eventually these fields will be planted so we won’t use them at all.

Thank you for all of the nice comments on my photos.  I am trying different focus settings.  These pictures were taken with different settings.

I may work more with the focus setting that I used for the last picture.  It lets you focus on the moving object and it is supposed to track it.  I need more practice with it to decide whether I like it.  The first and second pictures, I had to focus each frame.  It is hard to do with a fast moving subject as you can see in the second picture.

Have a great weekend!

This is a blog hop!

  1. Great FUF and great pictures! When do you get to go see the litter, too bad you haven’t gotten any pics yet. I bet they are all cute little bugs. Have a great weekend.

  2. Hi Y’all!

You aren’t kidding about hard to focus on fast moving…my Human almost never gets a photo of me that isn’t blurred unless I’ve slowed to a trot or am heading toward or away from her…even them things don’t always work out.

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  3. Stopping by on the hop – great FUF. Confess I’m disappointed (no puppy pictures), but love that Thunder has that nice cushy bed 🙂 Hope your weather cooperates and you have a great weekend.

  4. Woof! Woof! it means that you need to get another bed for Freighter. Happy Friday n Weekend. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

  5. Sorry bird friends, but we have to agree on those rotten Canadian Geese, not only are they mean and violent, they poop up the entire area which is so disgusting you can’t even walk in some places and there are so many of them. They are pretty but we wish they would all go back to Canada where they came from. I don’t blame the pup at all for not wanting to go near one, dead or alive!

  6. Thanks for joining the hop, great job with the recap!

I remember that battle that Storm had with the goose, it was classic Storm, gosh I love that dog and I don’t even know her, but she reminds me of Delilah. A dog with moxie and determination. What’s not to love?

Have a great weekend and enjoy some R&R. 🙂

  7. Aw man. I was so hoping to see puppy photos. I was actually thinking about that last night, wondering if they’d arrived yet. Great shots of your dogs, though!

  8. You’re pictures are turning out great! It’s tough to capture fast moving pups, but lower your ƒ-stop if you can to let it more light. It looks as though you’re getting the same kind of weather we’re having and that isn’t helping much with the lighting. But if you can get your ƒ-stop to 2.5-3.5 you’ll have some really awesome shots with blurred backgrounds while they run! 🙂

My favorite shot is Freighter with his pheasant! His intense look, him in mid stride, and the colors are just a really nice composition. Something you would see in those hunting magazines (my dad always gets in the mail)! 🙂

    1. Thanks for the tip. I don’t see that my camera will adjust lower than 3.5. But I may need to adjust something first to change that setting. I just want to get the focus right for a fast moving subjects with stuff like grass and brush in the way. One I get comfortable with that, then I will play with the other settings. 🙂

  9. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a photo of Thunder resting so peacefully as on that bed…And Storm…she is so fit in those pictures…bet it won’t take her long to drop her “baby weight” once she gets back in the field…Have a great weekend!

  10. You know after I asked that I wondered if it could be due to the dental work…glad it was that and nothing else 🙂 thanks for telling me 🙂 Great follow up too and I am personally quite jealous of the photos you take..you’re sure doing a lot better with your camera than me…there is so much to learn on my camera too! urr! Have a great weekend and we can’t wait to see the babies!!

  11. Fantastic pictures! We think the one of Storm and her first Goose is beautiful and would look great framed and hung. Sure do like your new header and page. Hugs and nose kisses

  12. I feel like the pictures look nicer and nicer by the day. My parents love to experiment with them as well.
