First, a picture of Storm getting the whelping box ready for the puppies.  This was before the pups were born.

Thanks to Dorene for this great picture.

I only got a few pictures of the visitors to our bird feeder this past weekend.

This turkey came through in the morning and the evening.  In the evening he was heading toward the river, so we think he must roost over that way.

Speaking of the river.  You may have heard of river flooding in the Midwest.  We are having our share of it in Michigan.  Luckily up by our cabin, there are no homes in danger because most are on high ground.  That is not true for other areas and other rivers.

The river is normally pretty shallow with some deep pockets.  This picture is from 2011 and shows the river as it normally looks.

The next picture is from approximately the same spot and was taken last weekend.

The river almost looks like a lake.

Never fear it will return to its normal level in a couple of weeks.

Tomorrow we will be participating in:

 TerrierTorrent

Which is being hosted by Terrier Torrent and Finn.

This will be in addition to some Follow-up.  🙂

  3. I guess the flooding will not be as bad as they thought here in MN because it has been so cold it has slowed things down. Love the squirrel pic…love squirrels and they love my bird feeder 🙂

  4. Strom looks so happy getting everything all ready for those cute pups.
    Blessings,
    Goose

  5. Wow I can’t even imagine seeing a turkey actually running around free like that! Those finches are beautiful too! Oh, I forgot to put the This ‘N That Thursday link on the blog so I’ll have to do after work. Sorry about that. So happy Storm’s doing good!!

  6. Fantastic pictures!!! Beauty in them all. All the gold finches have left my yard and I sure wish they would return. It is a good thing sweet Storm had that nice large place to have all those precious little pups, she sure had a bunch. 🙂 I love places like those water and tree pictures. I really enjoyed all the pictures. Hugs and nose kisses to you all from all of us!

  7. Storm looked pretty happy in that photo, like she knew the whelping box was the answer to her feeling better. 🙂

The river does look like a small lake. The Connecticut River overflows its banks many years. It begins in Quebec, Canada and runs through four New England states, so a lot of the melt from the northern areas goes into that one river and by the time it all gets down here….Shazam! We’ve got a lot of water. Luckily there aren’t a lot of homes built along the river, so we don’t have that kind of disruption. I hope you guys get some spring soon!!

  8. Hi Y’all!

Storm looks like she’d like to ask her photographer to “do you mind? Give me some privacy!”

We have lots of Jakes running around alone this time of year. Later they will join into a bachelor flock until they can build their own flock of hens.

    Y’all come back now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  9. Holy moley. There’s no bank on that river. Even with spring rains, our river is more of a sand bar. It’s controlled, upstream, by a dam. And I love the turkey. Tell him to pop over to my place if he’s hungry. We love having turkey for dinner. 😉

  10. I remember well the river I lived on looking like that for months after Frances, Charlie and Jean came through…I had fish swimming in what was had been my back yard…That kind of flooding is scary

  11. I’m glad that you are safe above all the flooding! I hope it will not be too bad for everyone living down lower!
