Welcome to the This ‘N That Thursday blog hop!

It’s a little of this and a little of that and everything in between…

The heat this week has made getting out to train difficult since by the time we finish work, it is the hottest part of the day.  Luckily, our yard is fairly shady so the dogs can do a couple of things there and they can practice obedience in the basement.  We finally got out to the park last night.  We waited until the sun was lower in the sky and stuck to the shade.  All the dogs got a single with a duck.  It was just to get them picking up a mark with a bird.  Freighter ran a back to back single like he will run at the test.  He did fine and didn’t have the dropsies with the bird that he did in the yard.  Thunder and Storm also got a walk up and Storm practiced honor (waiting while another dog is sent to retrieve).  Storm does not like to wait.  Hopefully she will be steady and not creep when she shouldn’t at the test.

Last week Thunder and Storm worked on blinds, both water and land.  Here are a couple of pictures of their land blinds.

Freighter got back to back single marks.  The cover was medium high although the super high strips that had been there the last time we trained in the field were cut.  Freighter had to put on a bit of a hunt, but he stuck with it and used his nose to come up with the bumper.

We also tossed a bumper just before the pond.  At the last Junior test that was where they put a mark.  We wanted to make sure that Freighter would pick up the bumper and not decide to go swimming.  He was a good boy and picked it right up.  Of course this was toward the end of the session and he already had some nice long swims in the pond.

  1. They love their job!! Love the picture of Freighter “flying!”

  2. That swimming looks so good. It is almost 100 and dew points in the 70’s here so we aren’t doing much right now. Looking forward to tomorrow when it will clear out. Emma

  3. It is so hot here also. Did a few water blinds yesterday with gman and glory got a couple doubles in the water. Really cuts into gman’s training because I am a woose and don’t want to be out there either. Rather be at the lake. Love storms teeth photo! Really nice blind shots.

    1. We have had storms every evening except last evening. Crummy training week just when we could use extra training…lol.

  4. Hi Y’all,

Good luck y’all! Paws crossed some cool weather reaches you before the test.

    Y’all come back now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  5. You guys all need to move to California…sunny, 75 degrees, low humidity…beautiful. It’s worth the occasional earthquake 😉
Love the photo of Storm’s whistle sit. She is so intent.

  6. Heat and long swims in the pond seem like they’d go together well. 🙂 I love all the photos! Have you looked into the Chill Collar for the dogs in this heat? I don’t know if it would slow them down or be too much, but they’re pretty amazing.

  7. I love that picture of Freighter stretched out running, all of your dogs sure look like they enjoy their work.

  8. I really like your action shots today…It is hard getting outdoors this time of year…It’s really too hot to do much after about 10am here and then in the afternoon the thunderstorms come in…We’re doing our bvest to stay active but it’s tough

  9. Glad that you have a bit of shade and a basement to work in. This heat sure is horrid. Hope it cools some for the test – good luck, and have fun!

  10. Superb pictures of some beautiful dogs working out. Love the picture of Storm with her teeth showing. Glad you were able to go in the evening to work them for awhile. The heat is awful here too. Hugs and nose kisses
