Since we were planning a big weekend of training, we decided to get some of our training ducks out of the freezer.  Only problem–they were still frozen Saturday morning.

Thunder-You know these ducks are still frozen right?
Thunder says: “You know these ducks are still frozen right?”
Freighter did not seem to concerned about the frozen ducks.
Freighter says: “Are these hard things bumpers, or ducks?  I can’t tell.”
Storm tried to shook her duck to try to soften it up.

Shake, Shake, Shake
Shake!  Shake!  Shake!
Better now Storm?
Storm says:  “That’s better!”

  1. Goodness…if i was hot out that may be a good thing??? So you use real ducks??? Sounds rather messy???

  2. Haha we had the same problem with geese. not that i told john to take them out a couple days ib advance…no he takes them out and puts them in the refridge on sat for sunday training. they were rock hard! luckly we took live flyers so we had some birds.

  3. I didn’t realize you use real ducks sometimes…guess that makes sense. I really love the curl coat on that last picture of Storm – looks like she had a perfect wave put into her hair.

  4. I would think that using them frozen might be better than thawed. Wouldn’t they last longer that way and not get rigor mortis or something?

  5. Well I knew if anyone was capable of remedying the problem it would be Storm. Loved this post, it made me laugh.

  6. So where do you get your ducks? I’m not volunteering to send you any, mind you. Doesn’t JoAnn raise her own fowl? Y’all don’t strike me as the type to raise them.

  7. Hi Y’all!

    BOL! Storm is sooooo funny!

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  8. LOL. Well, now you know they will fetch the ducks even frozen. Not a very realistic test scenario, but . . .

  9. Maybe you’ll start a trend – using frozen ducks to keep cool in the summer! So… how does that work? Do you use the same duck over and over, and just pop them in the freezer? How often do you have to get fresh ducks?

  10. I’m laughing now because I still remember the look on my mother’s face the first time she opened my freezer to find Ducksicles and Frozen Pigeon Pops…I thought she was gonna faint right there 🙂

  11. Hey Guys,

Have you tried rubber ducks? 🙂

    Big wags,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  12. That is funny….and didn’t Storm just take care of that problem! I didn’t know you used real ducks either, that is very interesting. I would also wonder how long you could use them, especially on a hot day.

  13. I was wondering where you get your ducks. Do you hunt during a certain time of year and freeze them or do you buy them somewhere?

  14. Oh boy… ahahahaha… you guys make my lack of hunt training knowledge more apparent every day. I had NO idea you used real ducks for training. Of course it makes perfect sense to use real birds, since that’s what the dogs ultimately need to be used to… but still… it just didn’t occur to me. Oh man, duck-sicles in the freezer. Necessary stuff to you. Funny stuff to us.
Good job, Storm! You made quick work of softening up that frozen bird… that neck’s limp as rope now.
