Freighter has learned how to open the pet gate.  He uses his nose to nudge the lever up and then pushes the gate open.  He has done it enough so that he is now quite accomplished.

I Can Open That Lever In About Two Seconds

We have to remember to click the safety latch because he hasn’t figured out how to open that yet.  The only problem is that sometimes the humans can’t figure it out either.

  1. That is one PAWTASTIC job by Freighter because that is one sophisticated gate! We just have plastic baby gates that suction cup to the walls. Mom says I could easily jump over but I have never figured out that I could. Good work Freighter! You rock!! Barks and licks and love, Dakota

  2. SMART! Golden LOVE it! Gotta video tape it. Happy Monday. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

  3. My baby sister Bailie would like to invite Freighter under the guise of a play date, but in actuality, she wants to learn how to operate the baby gate at our house. He is one smart dog, she could learn some stuff from him for sure!

  4. That is fantastic Freighter. Way to go. He just needs a little more time till he can do the safety lock. Then you can call on him when you Humans can’t remember how it is done, Quite the escape artist. Hooray for Freighter.

  5. Freighter is too smart and seems like they just keep getting smarter doesn’t it? We have to stay on our toes because our two hooligans are watching and learning every day.

  6. Smart boy Freighter! Those safety latches are a bitch, especially when you’ve got your hands full!

  7. Freighter is so smart! Good job, pal. Ma says she never can figure out how to even set up one of those gates, never mind lock/unlock it. BOL

  8. Hi Y’all!

At the mountain house there is a small yard that was fenced mainly to keep the falling boulders from smashin’ into the house. There is a gate at each end of the little yard. My Human puts me out there for a last quick pee before bedtime. Problem was that I had already learned to open the doors at the shore house…they have those long handles that a human can open with their hands full…so learnin’ to open the latch on a King Fence gate was puppy play. So my Human took bungee cords and wrapped them around the fence and gate at each end. I’m still workin’ on tryin’ to undo them…so far no success.

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  9. So smart! We use a solid baby gate to keep Silas out of the upstairs bathroom. He could *easily* jump it, but so far he’s never bothered. I wish he didn’t have such a fetish for chewing the bath mat, because that gate is annoying.

  10. Too smart for his own good, huh? He’ll probably figure out the safety latch and make it look easy, while you will still struggle with it! 🙂

  11. Good work Freighter! 😉 Shiner knows how to open almost all the doors in the house, but it’s not too hard as they will usually just open with a little push.

  12. Freighter,

I think your humans are suggesting they might be smarter than you and figure it out before you? I have a feeling you’ll show them! 🙂

    I hope you’re having a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  13. Well done, Freighter! They tried a similar gate across the kitchen door when I was a pup. I used a lot less finesse – I just kept pushing until I moved it!
