It’s Follow-up Friday.  The blog hop that:

Let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Thank you to Jodi from Heart Like A Dog  for hosting the hop.

This is a bit of different follow-up since I am writing this ahead of time.  Normally I answer questions.  I will catch up on any next week.  🙂

Earlier this week I mentioned that I purchased a new waterproof camera.  I wanted something for those times when I did not want to take my DSLR out into the weather.  I also wanted something hubby could take with him out hunting.  In the past most of the hunting pictures were taken on bright sunny days.  Bright sunny days are not good duck hunting days.  Since the new camera is waterproof, shock proof and freeze proof, I hope it will be easier for hubby to snap pictures anytime he is out hunting.

I looked at all kinds of waterproof cameras and finally settled on Olympus – TG-830 iHS, (which I got on sale!).  It is 16 mega pixels, small enough to fit in a pocket, and the dials are easy to use.

I need to mess with it more, because it has a ton of settings.  I tried a couple right out of the box.  To be honest, I am not sure what all of them are called.

Thunder
Thunder.  Low light with the flash.  The camera will also put vignetting effects on a photo.
Storm
Storm.  Night portrait setting.  No flash.
Thunder. The camera has a "dog" setting. It is supposed to automaticlly take a picture when it recognizes a dog's face. I don't really know how to work it because this is the only picture it snapped of Thunder despite me trying several times.

Freighter using the iauto setting. No flash. It was low light. Evening on a cloudy day.

Finally, I took a series of action shots in bright light.  The camera is super fast.  I think I am going to have fun playing with it.  Check out this slideshow.

  1. Have fun trying out your new camera. We have never gotten to the bottom of all our settings on our latest one. Maybe like you we should play around with it. Have a fabulous Friday.
    Best wishes Molly

  2. New cameras are GREAT. So many new things to try out. We loved the shots.
    Blessings,
    Goose

  3. Nice! We’ve had an Olympus camera a few years ago and it survived several high drops and water adventures. Of course, the depth in water it can go is 33ft, and we decided to test that in a shallow lake while diving – when they say 33ft, they mean it. 34 feet is too much. Oops. lol

    1. Oops! I read a couple reviews of some cameras that actually were OK past the depth specified. Not Olympus I guess…lol.

  4. Congratulations on your new camera! I like the way the night portrait setting looks. Have fun playing with it, that would consume my whole weekend:)

  5. Oh fun! and very handy. I still need to sell my pentax waterproof. DId yours come with a manual book? That’s one thing I didn’t like when I got my Olympus waterproof. No book, Just a CD 🙁 I am one of the few that reads those manuals to learn where things are at. Looks like I will have to print it off instead. Have fun playing, I am waiting for my brother to visit so he can return my charger to me. (another weird thing about the camera, no battery charger just a cable)

  6. New cameras are always fun to mess around with and figure out what they do well and what not. Cute photos, seems to be a decent camera.

  7. Hi Y’all!

My Human has an older Olympus and really loves it…still uses It on longer hikes. Not as good for bird watching, but has gotten some great pictures if birds aren’t too distant. The one you got looks like it takes fantastic pictures!

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  8. Great photos…I especially can’t believe how bright that low light one of Freighter is. I have a great DSLR also, but wouldn’t take it out in the weather either. Plus I like a nice pocket camera for convenience a lot of the time when we’re out walking, etc. I’m not happy with my current Pentax (it is SLOW), so I might have to look at this one! I never figure out all the features….I don’t have the patience to read the manual!

  9. I think you have yourself a great camera. The shots are lovely. You sure have some good looking dogs, full of alot of spirit. You seem to capture that quite well. Great weekend to you.

  10. Hi Thunder, Storm & Freigher…long time no woof…I’m FINALLY getting to catch up! 🙂

I love your new header banner with your 3 faces! And Hsin-Yi loved this post – you know she’s a real camera nerd! She’s very jealous – she would love a waterproof camera! (in fact, at this point, she would just like something that would take good ophotos but isn’t the size of a typewriter – she gets arm ache every time she takes her DSLR out for a session!! 😉 )

    Honey the Great Dane

  11. Great shots and the dogs are all looking fantastic. Have fun with the new camera and have a super weekend. Hugs and nose kisses

  12. Thanks for joining the blog hop! I just looked at my camera and I did not get the model with the iHS!!! Crap now I have to return it.

    Great shots of the dogs!!

  13. RTB, that’s what I keep telling myself about my camera…RTB (Read the Book)…I know there’s a lot of setting I have no clue about…I’m a tinge jealous…What I really want is a waterproof camera…Now that we’re kayaking more a waterproof camera would be a great addition…I am sure I’m going to flood the one I have and be really annoyed with myself…I’ve had two Olympus cameras and the one thing that bothered me was that it had a proprietary cable and not a standard USB…i hate having to keep an inventory of “special” cable for each device…same with their memory cards…couldn’t just use a standard, it had to be a special “Olympus” card …I have one or two of them around here if you want some extra memory…Let me know and I’ll mail them to you

  14. Seems like it’s going to be an excellent go-to camera for when you don’t want to take out your DSLR. Someday, I’ll convince myself into getting a new camera and I’ll keep this series in mind.
Love the “test shots” you’ve taken so far. That one of Freighter is great, and turned out terrific on the auto setting. Love the action shots… I keep clicking through the slideshow quickly to create the full action running effect :).
