It has been darn cold outside lately.  The brown dawgs don’t mind being outside in the cold.  In fact sometimes I think they would stay out there until they froze in one spot.

However when they come inside, they usually head for their beds.  Until the last year, they really didn’t have “beds”.  We usually just put a blanket or two down for them to sleep on.  They seemed to prefer it that way.

When Thunder turned seven, we felt he should have a nice orthopedic bed.  He is a large dog so I had to hunt around a bit until I found a suitable bed for him that didn’t break the bank.

Thunder loves his bed.  The trouble is that the other dogs love it too.  It is a constant battle as to who can get on it first.  We bought a second bed, but apparently that bed is not as nice as Thunder’s bed.

One day Storm happened to be all curled up asleep on Thunder’s bed and rather than make trouble by waking Storm up, or growling at her, Thunder just paced back and forth between where we were sitting and his occupied bed.  It was as if he was trying to get us to kick Storm off his bed.

Lucky for him, Storm heard a noise and got up to investigate…the bed was reclaimed by Thunder.

Don’t think that Storm and Freighter don’t play games to see who can get the bed first.  Whenever Freighter happens to be on Thunder’s bed and Storm wants it, she just goes to the window and starts to bark like she is watching an intruder.  Freighter gets up to investigate and Storm claims the bed.

That bed is a constant source of entertainment.

  1. I think it is so funny that your dogs do the old “Fake out” routine on each other. Mine do the same thing! It is so obvious to us what they are doing but the dogs each fall for the “robbers in the yard come help” bark! I wanted to join in your hop too but I already entered Thoughtless Thursday so i didn’t know if I could add yours. Sigh…so many hops, so few Thursdays in the week!

  2. That is so funny and crafty and clever. How come they always want the same bed. toy, bone etc etc?
    Have a tremendous Thursday.
    Best wishes Molly

  3. We have daily bed wars too. Katie has her own bed that Bailie and I aren’t real keen on, but Bailie and I have matching beds upstairs and downstairs. I have the place where I normally sleep and she has hers, but Mom finds me sleeping in Bailie’s spot a lot. She thinks I am trying to be dominant and makes me move to my own bed. Good luck with your bed wars!

  4. Fun blog hop! Too bad I don’t have dogs, only turtles.

I love reading how Tricky Storm is 😉

  5. Ah, the bed wars…we have them too. Maggie has started to take a liking to the Jack’s bed in my office. Jack will immediately surrender it (he’s such a pushover), but it’s really ‘his’ bed and the other one isn’t really big enough for him, so end up making Maggie move. Their beds in the living room are interchangeable…luckily it’s the same bed, so there isn’t one that’s ‘better’ than the other. No fakeouts going on here, like I said, Jack will immediately get out of the bed if Maggie climbs in with him. He’s not a real snuggler.

  6. Lol poor thunder! I’m glad they like the beds tho! Or should I say ‘bed’ not beds lol
Great hop guys, I am co hosting thoughtless Thursday with Ruckus today! 2 great hops for Thursdays! Love it!

  7. Hi Y’all!

Too too funny! Now I’m sure that I don’t want a little brother or sister!

I made a big mistake today when I said “no bytes”…can’t make the linky list appear in my blog. So sorry about that y’all. My Human tried too, but she needs the computer for work so…I’ll talk to y’all later. Guess that’s the problem with only knowing 2 things about a computer…how to turn it on and how to turn it off!

    Y’all come back now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

P.S. we weren’t planin’ on entering the giveaway, so that’s okay anyway.

    1. Is the linky not working or are you just having trouble with placing the code? Sometimes it can be a pain, but it seems the best tool for hops out there. 🙂 I can give you pointers sometime if you need, (not that I am the expert :)). Thanks for linking up!

  8. Haha! I can’t believe Storm fakes a distraction to get the bed from Freighter! That is hilarious! And genius! Man, sometimes I don’t think we give dogs the credit they deserve.
No dog beds in our house to compete over. Aside from attention, Moses and Alma don’t compete with each other for much.

    1. Storm is a smart girl and she likes things her way…lol. I imagine Newfs would need gigantic beds. Freighter lucks out because the beds are a recent thing since both Thunder and Storm are getting older.

  9. My dogs also fake each other out. It is hilarious and annoying because its usually involves barking.

  10. Thanks for co-hosting a new blog hop. It is cold today here also-a balmy 9 degrees. Potty trips outside will be short and snappy I think!

  11. Laughing about your bed battle. Jeffie and Rudy do the same thing. However, if it is Rosie who wants the “special bed” they both defer to the Queen 😉

  12. Oh, that is funny how they trick each other into getting off the bed so they can take over! We dogs sure are brilliant when we want to be!
    Happy Thursday, Brown Dawgs!
    Oz

    1. Yes they are brilliant when they want something…lol. We won’t even talk about the cat who, on more than one occasion, has tricked me into giving her a second meal because she acted like hubby forgot.

  13. We are excited to partake in the new Thursday fun and love the pics. It is so stinking cold here, we are ready for spring. Stay warm!

  14. That is too funny. I love it when our dogs demonstrate just how smart they really are! I want to get a better bed (orthopedic) for Kobi, but I wonder if he’ll be the only one that doesn’t sleep in it!

    1. That would be typical wouldn’t it…lol. Freighter also likes to chew the expensive bed. I am always telling him to leave it! Might wan to rethink the bed with a puppy in the house.

      1. Oh, you’re right. Better stick to the cheap beds for a while! So far Luke hasn’t been chewing the ones we have too much, but I’m sure he’d start as soon as we got an expensive one! LOL
Anyway, half the time Kobi is happy laying on the cold hardwood floors!

  15. Clever girl, Storm! My old cocker used to do that, too. She’d pretend she heard an intruder and the Bichon would give up whatever he had.

  16. So funny and I could see it all taking place as I read. Chancy does the pacing back and forth when one of the cats is on his bed. What would we do without them, they keep us entertained, loved and protected. Both of those beds look nice. Hugs and nose kisses

  17. 😀 They’re so clever. Pierson just lays on Maya when he wants the bed. She refuses to move, so they just end up snuggling together.

  18. ROFL! I thought my dogs were the only ones who did the “fake out”, Ella started that little trick, then Lassie learned it and now Petal still does it with my sister’s dog Penny and Penny does it to Petal. It’s too funny.
Dogs are so smart. Looks like you got a great bed! It’s hard to find big dog beds that’ll provide comfort without breaking the bank.

  19. My 3 are constantly maneuvering to get the most valuable bed. Only thing is none of them can decide which one it is. LOL Ducky seems to prefer the couch, though, over the dog beds.

  20. Haha, bed wars! We have a dog bed for Duke but he never uses it. Did your dogs just lie on the beds because they were comfortable or did you have to teach them what to do with it?

    1. Actually they liked the beds from the start, but you have to remember Thunder is almost 8 and Storm is almost 7. When they were younger they never wanted beds. Our golden would never sleep on a bed. i think it was too warm for him. Even at 13, no bed. Freighter will sleep on a bed, but he also sleeps on the cold floor.

  21. Delilah does that when Sampson has her spot on the bed or when he has a toy. Typically I shush her with the toy, but man at 3 in the morning a harsh bark is startling. 🙂

Thanks so much for co-hosting this hop with me, it looks to be a LOT of fun!!

  22. We have two Ortho beds different kinds, a thick one for Lexie since she’s getting older and has problems off and on with sore legs. Mica has one just like Thunder and loves it. Mica will usually be on her bed if inside, Lexie prefers the couch or wood floor. No fake outs over beds, but a good treat or toy Lexie will get Mica to give up.

  23. We got orthopedic beds for our guys. As the Labs are getting older, the carpeted floor and blankets were still too hard for them and they kept climbing on the bed in the middle of the night. Now they prefer their orthopedic beds to our bed. We put them in the Spinone crates as well, and they often go into their crates when they want to take a nap.

  24. Cullen and Macha were very good about maintaining distance from each other’s belongings, including house kennels and beds. However, the new girl on the block (who was in the middle of everything in the littler) she always flaunts whatever, Now she is teaching the old dog new tricks! Territorial disputes abound. But the funniest is to see long girl Macha curl up like a snail to fit into Little
One’s teeny nest with the nice sides! Besides it is a classic Woolrich plaid! Just plain fashionable. Hunted for the same in a larger size,
not available. But I am not giving up. Anything to keep the peace.
