We had a great weekend at the dog shows.  Well, the weather could have been better on Saturday.  It was cold, damp and windy.  I had two coats on and could have used another.  I thought about putting on my gloves, but resisted.  🙂

Saturday was an ACC supported entry which means there were extra classes to enter.  There were Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes and Non-Regular Classes like Veteran and Hunting Dog class in addition to all of the regular classes.  There were prizes for placements and some fluffy ribbons.

Thunder was entered in two things.

He was entered in the Veteran Sweepstakes (Dogs 8 and under 10).  Sweepstakes are fun because you get a cut of the entry fee if you win.  Of course the entries are not large so we are talking dollars and cents.  🙂

Thunder won Best Veteran in Sweeps and got some giant cookies and a nice frame and a big fluffy ribbon.

He was also entered in the Veteran Class which is shown after the class dogs and bitches.  This time he came in second and got more cookies and a ribbon as his prize.

Freighter was entered in the Open Dog class and he took first in his class and didn’t do much after that.  He got a nice picture and a ribbon.

On Sunday Freighter was again entered in the Open Class.  He ended up with a 3 point major (his second major) but it is kind of unusual how he earned it.  I will explain in tomorrow’s post.

His sister Sunny had a wonderful weekend.  She took a 4 point major on Saturday and a 3 point major on Sunday which finished her Championship.  It was kind of neat that the litter mates ended up with majors in the same show, so we took a picture.

Then there is Storm.  She was in Indiana running a Master test.  She got through all three series and picked up all the birds, but needed a couple of handles so did not earn a pass.  I guess the thing that tipped the scales against her was that she avoided the water on a fairly simple mark yesterday.

Oh well.  The good news is that she was rock steady.  With all of her issues with breaking and not even getting to pick up a bird, this is a big improvement.  I guess her blind work was also nice.

This is the first time we have sent her away to run a test, so I am happy she at least got all the birds.  It would have been nice to finish the year with a pass, but it didn’t work out.

Thanks so much to our trainer Darrin for taking her and doing such a great job with her on kind of short notice.

  1. Congrats!! Great job all around! Maybe Storm will get her pass next time.

  2. Thunder you did the best of all getting cookies! Poor Freighter, I would be miffed getting a ribbon and no cookies! What kind of deal is that? Glad you all had a great weekend!

  3. Hi Y’all!

What a great weekend. I’m sure, since Storm got all the birds, that she thinks she won the world and had the best weekend of all!

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  4. Great, great! Storm is getting to be an old hand and eventually she will get that pass. Big girl to drive off by herself while the boys headed to the ring. Still think of Freighter as a young pup, he will grow into that Ch! Of course, Thunder, such a gentleman Chessie! Can hardly wait to hear the tale!

  5. Great job this weekend. The weather was really chilly here in Michigan this weekend. I found myself wearing layers for the first time in a while. It’s great that Sunny did so well, too. Love the photo of those two together.

  6. It sounds like a pretty good weekend all around, even though Storm didn’t get her pass. It sounds like she at least showed some improvement, so that’s great. And congrats to the boys on their successes!
