We spent a long weekend at the cabin for grouse hunting, but we were also there because we were getting a new well drilled.

We knew the noise from drilling might bother the dogs so we made sure they were comfortable in the house.  Thunder and Storm are older, so they were happy to lounge around a bit.  Freighter is a youngster with a lot of energy, so I made sure to take him on a nice walk in the morning.

The dogs weren’t really bothered by the noise of the drilling, but it was a long day of them being cooped up in the house.  Around lunchtime I put out some whipped cheese in a tub for a snack.  I left it in the middle of the counter so we could nibble on it and went back to reading a book on the porch.

There was a lot of noise so I couldn’t really hear what the dogs were doing.  I assumed they were snoozing.

Not so…

Hubby came in from outside and found a brown dawg standing on the counter with his face in the tub of cheese!  All fours.  Standing on the counter.

I guess when something looks appealing, you might as well help yourself.

  1. In defense of the guilty party, you stated above, “I left it in the middle of the counter so we could nibble on it”. It does not say we includes or excludes dogs, so I side with the dog, it was not wrong. 😉

  2. Oh my goodness, that takes counter surfing to a whole new level. I hope Luke never finds out this is possible. LOL

  3. When our girls were growing up, I was always told “if they’re quiet, then they’re up to something.” I guess it applies to dogs as well. Pretty smart of them to wait until there is enough noise to cover their cheese burglary!

  4. Too funny that we both blogged about the irresistability of cheese today! But yours is MUCH more mischeivous! 🙂 Standing on the counter! BOL!

  5. And that is why I never leave anything out on the counter. Even though Callie and Shadow both have varying levels of cruciate disease, I wouldn’t put it past Ducky to find a way to get at what she wants! LOL

  6. Hi Y’all!

I have to show my Human this post! She and Papa already think I am about the best dog ever…I’ve lived with them since I was 14 months and the worst thing I’ve ever done is sniff the edge of the counter…and get a royal “yelling at”. Gee Golly!

Sorry Freighter, but I’d already figured it would be you! Good thing you don’t have my Human…you’d lose your “freedom” and spend all your time in your crate unless the Human was right there watching every little breath you took.

What did your mum do to you?

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

    1. Mum did not catch him. But when I heard about it I laughed. I could not help it.

  7. Sweet Freighter we can sure understand how you would not be able to pass up that yummy cheese. Sounds to us like it was left there for you to try and see how it was…good job! lol Hugs and nose kisses

  8. Uh oh. Shame shame, you guys for leaving yummy food where a brown dawg can get it. Very smart, Freighter, but you might pay for it with a tummy ache later.
