Last week Storm was due for her annual vet visit.

Storm

It was Storm’s lucky day because her favorite vet was in.  Our vet is a walk-in clinic so you don’t make an appointment.  It is first come, first served but if you would like to see a particular vet who is working that day, you can ask.  Storm is not a big fan of going to the vet, but she really likes one vet in particular so if that vet is working, we ask for her.  Actually, we try to plan Storm’s visits for when her favorite vet is working.

Storm was due for her Rabies and Lepto vaccines.

Rabies is a three year booster and is something that is required in the county where we live.  In fact, this past summer, the county Animal Control went through our neighborhood checking that dogs had current vaccines.

Lepto is something we keep our dogs current on because they are hunting dogs and likely to come into contact with areas where the bacteria is present.  Storm did not need Parvo or Distemper boosters but if she had, we would have given the Lepto vaccine separate from those.  Storm has never had a reaction, but there is no reason to load all of the vaccines at once.  Our vet does not charge an exam fee to give vaccines.  They examine the dog before administering vaccines as a matter of course.

The vet examined Storm and pronounced her healthy and fit, especially considering that she is seven years old.

Her weight is perfect at 69 pounds.  We like her around 68-69 pounds.  67 pounds is a bit too thin and over 70 is too porky.  I won’t lie.  Since Storm was spayed last year it has been a battle to keep her weight down.  We will have to watch it after hunting season ends since she will be less active over the winter months.

The vet did say that it is time to get Storm’s teeth cleaned, so we will have to schedule that over the winter.

That wrapped Storm’s visit to the vet.  She got lots of pets and was such a good girl that she got some cookies from the secret stash in the cupboard.  🙂

Do your pets love or hate the vet?

  1. Hate is too strong a word; let’s just say when we’re asked if we want to go for a ride, we are hoping it ends at doggie play-group and not the vet 😉

  2. The vets themselves seem to be nice people, but we don’t like to go there at all. Well, Bailie doesn’t mind, but Katie and I are terrified! We are happy we are all spayed and have never had problems with putting on poundage after the surgery. It is supposed to be a normal issue, but so far none of us have gained weight. Storm is so active I’m surprised she has to battle that.

  3. Great you got good news from your vet, Storm. By now I made no bad experience at the vet, so I’m a good boy (mostly). I only leave a pee-mail there (always on the heater) and I always try to say hello to the vets dog, but that’s a silly girl what runs away when I enter the vets crib :o)

  4. Glad to hear all went well. Mine like the people at the vet, but depending on what is happening they may not like the actual visit. Delilah went on Friday for a blood draw and while she seemed fine at the vet, her next poop was a bit soft, which tells me she was somewhat stressed. I hate that, but the blood draw is necessary to ensure her dental is safe. Fingers crossed it all goes well and she only needs the one extraction.

  5. So glad that Storm had a great report! I am blessed, both Dakota and Cody are model patients at the vet. Dakota sits and “smiles” awaiting his turn (he also gets groomed at the vet so he is never sure if the is going there to be groomed or to see the doctor). Either way he likes it. Our vet is an Angel. I think the fact that I try not to stress out about vet trips (I know in some instances that is hard to do), helps them to remain calm. Even my cat is fine at the vet. He doesn’t adore it, but he isn’t one who fights the vet and he doesn’t howl or anything else. Makes it sooo much easier!

  6. Koira loves going to the vet, and gets super excited when we pull in. Pallo hates going to the vet so much that we muzzle him before he gets handled, just in case.

  7. We are happy to hear that Storm is a healthy girl! I, Bart, absolutely LOVE the vet. I get acupuncture every couple of weeks and Jaime, MY tec, gives me cookies! Ruby likes to go, too, mostly to smell all the pee-mail that gets left at the door. Otto is a good boy, butt doesn’t have to go as often as we do. I get to go in about an hour to get my bandage on my foot changed! Woo-Hoo! COOKIES!!

  8. Good job, Storm! Atka is indifferent about the vet, but Mauja is not a fan. Not a fan at all!

  9. So glad Storm had such a good report. It’s amazing what a difference a single pound up or down from a dog’s “norm” can make! I can feel it when I pick up Daisy if she’s over 15 pounds, likewise when she’s under. Daisy’s due for her annual vaccinations this month too, but we won’t tell her that. She loves the vet himself but hates what he does with pointy objects….can’t say I blame her….

  10. Storm looks very fit and healthy, and now the vet has confirmed it…..good girl Storm!
Poppy does not like going to the vet, she always knows where we are going, and starts to shake all over as soon as we arrive in the car. Once inside, she is even worse, she pants and wants to sit on my lap and hide her face!

  11. We are at the ve so often that they are used to it. I take all the dogs over 7 every 6 months and most of our seniors have more frequent visits then that. Norbert our lab mix gets acupuncture at least monthly. I’d say their opinions on the vet vary. Weasley the youngest loves the vet. Bob our bulldog hates it. Ping and Tubby are not fans and Norbert likes acupuncture ok but hates walking to our local vet. Im glad Storm got a good report.

  12. Boomer and Dottie love going to the vet until a thermometer comes out!

  13. Macha is long-suffering, but has known Dr. Bart forever, and she behaves, only to let all know Chessies are cooperative! Sometimes we drive by the vet’s corner and she will look the other way! You can almost here a sigh of relief when we do not pull into that lot!
Erynn had a bee sting…off to the vet. Her baby shots…off to the vet.
She ate a peach stone…call the vet! This little girl at eight months is
a vet vet! And she is tall enough to reach the treat jar! But they love seeing her mature. Bart has been seeing our Chessies for 20 years,
they are growing old together :~) We are very fortunate to have such an easy going, friendly and caring doc for our pups.

  14. Donna starts to tremble violently the minute she steps into the vet’s office. Love the photos of Storm here 😀 looking forward to speaking with the vet to learn more about what vaccines she needs or doesn’t need since I still have minimal knowledge in that area.

  15. Lexie used to enjoy going to the vet, our vets are very friendly and do a lot of petting and she got a lot of compliments. Mica is the same she enjoys the attention and shots don’t bother her. She isn’t thrilled about giving them blood but everything else is good. Aspen was very happy getting lots of attention hardly noticed the shots and was so good for a little guy he got 3 treats. All three give the vet a kiss when the exam is over 😉

  16. Hi Y’all!

Sigh, I don’t mind going to the vet, and I have several. So glad that Storm had a great, positive visit!

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  17. Mine all hate the vet. Luke is the most OK, he doesn’t get upset until they stick him with a needle (then he squeals and jumps….not fun!). The girls shake the whole time they’re there.
So glad to hear Storm got a clean bill of health. I like that you split up the lepto vaccine from the others. We split ours too….Cricket has had vaccine reactions so we try to err on the side of caution.
