Yesterday I introduced you to the Whistle activity monitor. I thought it would be fun to follow Freighter through a typical day to see how the Whistle works to track your dog’s activity.
The day I selected was last Saturday 1-3-15. We had some crummy weather: rain, ice and snow so we could not do any real training. Instead we hung around the house and did house chores.
The crummy weather also prevented me from taking pictures on Saturday. My initial plan was to do a photo shoot with my good camera, but the weather made that impossible. Instead, I am substituting pictures that I took the day before with my cell. The activity is the same, there is just no ice or rain involved.
Ideally Freighter would wear the collar with his Whistle all day long. However, we crate or kennel him when we are not home and I do not like to leave a collar on a dog in a confined space like that. Also, he has some dog shows coming up so we avoid him wearing a collar 24-7 because we don’t need a line on his neck fur. 🙂
Mostly Freighter wears his Whistle when we are hanging around with him or when walking or training. I am using it to monitor his activity level to see his moving vs resting times. I am also keeping track of his meals.
These are some screen shots of last Saturday’s tracker:
You can see some spikes in his level of activity. The Whistle keeps track of that as “Play”. Yep, that was when he was running around the soggy yard tearing up the grass. Freighter knows how to play and make his own fun. You can change this to Walk, Play, Run, Swim or Active as you like. You may notice that a couple of the play times say “with you”. That is because my phone and Freighter were near one another and it picked it up through the Bluetooth.
I have also entered his feeding time and a photo of his kibble and treat times and a photo of that. I just use a generic photo of his kibble in a bowl and a generic photo of him chowing on a treat, but of course you can take any photo you like.
He was actually eating a giant Simply Nourish Cranberry Crunch Yogurt Treat. I haven’t had a chance to show you some of the things Santa brought the brown dawgs. Here is one.
I broke the giant treat apart for all three dogs to share, much to their dismay!
Although Saturday was not a banner day for activity, Freighter did manage to get in 37 minutes with some intense activity.
If you would like your very own Whistle activity monitor, we are having a give-away.
The give-away is being conducted entirely on the @WhistleLabs Instagram page. It will be open through Sunday January 11, 2015. Sorry but it is open to US residents only.
Here is how you can enter:
- Follow @WhistleLabs on Instagram
- Like 5 of their photos
- Leave a comment saying you came from @2browndawgs’s blog
Each step is important, but number 3 is very important because the people at Whistle are selecting the winner. They will not know you want to be entered if you do not leave a comment indicating that we sent you.
While you are over on Instagram, why not follow the brown dawgs? Find them at: instagram.com/2browndawgs.
Thanks to the people at Whistle for sending us one Whistle to try and one to give-away.
Way to go Freighter, I still think this is a cool gadget. That treat looks hugh and nummy.

Oz
That’s such an interesting gadget! And the treat looks amazing too – we feed Daisy Simply Nourish lamb kibble, and she loves it. I haven’t seen that treat, although they’d have to make it in a miniature size for Daisy! 😉
sounds great, you know exactly what he did :o) the treat looks tasty, Easy drools on my keyboard :o)
That is one furry furry pawesome looking treat! Wooooowooooooo!
That is really cool! I like how it tracks everything for you.
That whistle tracker looks so neat!!
What is with you humans and forcing three dogs to eat one treat? My mom does that too. Isn’t one made for one??? Pretty cool that the thing figures out when the phone is nearby!
37 minutes sounds pretty good for a crappy weather day! that is when I would really like to know how much activity the dogs are getting….when we’re just kind of hanging around the house not doing anything really structured.
Interesting. We have a Hyrex which is the same theory – Jack wears it.
Sounds like a fun ap! Thanks for sharing a day in the life of Mr. Freighter!
Hi Y’all!
I heard my Humans discussing this the other day. They are thinking of getting one for me. The problem, to listen to them, is that my Human doesn’t want more apps on her phone. BOL!
Y’all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
