I have a confession.

Some of you may remember that about a month ago Storm was sprayed by a skunk.  If you don’t remember let me summarize: Storm decided to chase a skunk and the skunk let her know that he did not appreciate it in the way that skunks do.

First hubby washed her with a special de-skunking concoction, but because it was pitch dark when he washed her, I repeated the bath when it got light out.

It just so happened that this happened the week following my eye surgery so I had some restrictions which made the job of dog washing quite a challenge.  I was not supposed to lift anything more that 10 pounds.  That was fine because I did not plan to pick up smelly Storm.  My other restriction was that I was not supposed to bend over, you know like to scrub a dog.

I was able to wash Storm, but it took me twice as long and I was exhausted when I was done due to stooping rather than bending to scrub and rinse and blowdry.

When I finished washing Storm, I took all of the straw out of her dog house because it also smelled like skunk from when she was in it right after the initial spaying.  However, since I wasn’t supposed to bend over I ended up on hands and knees pulling all of the bedding out in handfuls.  No wonder I was tired.

I finished that job up and put Storm in her run and Thunder in the laundry room so that I could take Freighter out to his run.  We don’t let the two boys meet face to face at doorways and such so usually one or the other goes in our laundry room with the door closed while we swap out.

By this time it was getting late and I needed to get to work, but first I had to stop by the pet store to buy a commercial de-skunking solution and some shampoo.  We made a homemade solution when it first happened, but I had a feeling I was going to need more and we had run out of the household ingredients to make the concoction.  I had also used up every drop of shampoo in the house on Storm so I needed to buy more for smelly Storm.  (OK one of the shampoos was from when we had our Golden before the Chessies, so that went into the trash.)

I got to the pet store and bought the solution and shampoo and headed off to work.  I sat down at my desk and…

Oh No Thunder!
Oh No Thunder!

I remembered that I left poor Thunder locked in the laundry room!

I totally forgot about him, I must confess.

I could not leave him there all day so even though I had just arrived at work, I went right back home.  (It is a good thing it is not far.)  When I opened the back door I could hear big old dawg’s tail thumping on the wall in the laundry room.  He was happy to be sprung.

Now whenever I put him in the laundry room to swap dogs I make sure to tell him, don’t worry I won’t forget you.  I am not sure he believes me.  🙂

  2. Well… I would say poor Thunder but I think think it must have been frustrating for you too!! I hope your eye is healing well and you’re all energised! 🙂

  3. Thunder probably had a nice quiet nap. Have a tremendous Thursday.
    Best wishes Molly

  4. Oh poor Thunder :o) that mom’s huh? My mom forgot me once in the wardrobe… and I was as busy as a bee while waiting that she opens the door… think that happens never again LOL

  5. Oh Thunder, the fun you could have had in the laundry room! 🙂

  6. Some days become a daze, when it all stacks up….just don’t give him a chance to lock you into the laundry room. You know how Chessies remember..

  7. We are BOL… oopsie! We hoped on over from Golden Daily Scoop and are happy to find your Thursday blog hop!

  8. The good thing here is you remembered that you forgot. LOL Many years ago I did some daycare from my home. After my sister had my niece and it was time for her to go back to work, I began watching my niece. My typical routine was to take the kids to the bus stop and them come home to do whatever was on the list for the day. The very first day I watched her, I forgot she was there. (We lived in a duplex, she was on one side and I was on the other with a door on a shared wall in the living room.) I loaded the kids into the car, drove down to the bus stop and as I parked the car I said, “Sh*t! I forgot about Taylor!!” I left the kids with another mom and flew home, only to find her sitting on the couch watching Winnie the Pooh, just as my sister had left her.

Whew, it’s scary when we forget something, isn’t it?

So did Thunder stay in the house, or did he kennel up too?

  9. Oh my gosh Jodi. I can just see you rushing back. Thunder was in the house that day since Freighter and Storm were outside. He really doesn’t mind, but my laundry room is kind of small and we keep the food, treats and some toys in there. I suppose he would have had a field day if I left him for the entire day. 🙂

  10. At least you remembered him and went back to let him out! 🙂

I totally understand — you had lots on your mind, AND you were exhausted from the sound of it.

  11. Haha – oh no poor Thunder! At least he got set free 🙂 That skunk smell sure is STRONG. It burns your nose and eyes… Shiner has been skunked 3 times… you’d think she would have learned. I’ve found that no matter what skunk shampoo formula you use, that smell still lingers a bit.

  12. Wow, what an eventful day! It sounds quite tiring and smelly. Maybe the skunk fumes affected your brain so you forgot about Storm? That is why I love dogs; you forget about him, and he greets you with a wagging tail. We can learn so much from dogs.

  13. Hah well it’s pretty sweet that you came right back for him 🙂 I’m so glad we don’t see many skunks around here because I know I’d be dealing with a stinky dog and I don’t have a clue how to get rid of that nasty smell.

  14. Funny! At least you remembered before you came home to find him there. Our pups have never been sprayed with skunk. Lately we’ve been smelling it more around the neighborhood … but it might not be skunk we’re smelling, but skunk WEED, since marijuana has been legalized in Washington state, and we live in a college town!

  15. LOL. I can relate… that sounds like something I would do! The other day I noticed one of Rita’s water bowls was empty and thought “I need to refill that” – then I got distracted. The next morning it was still empty – and so was her other one, which she must have drained when the first one was empty. Ooops. Bad Momma!

  16. I think many of us with multiple dogs have done things like that before! You sure had a lot going on so it’s understandable. We’ve lost Cricket more than once because she came into a large closet or the pantry with us and we never even saw her, or forgot to make sure she came back out with us. We always give the dogs a treat before we leave the house, at least that way we know where they all are!

    1. I normally do give a treat as I leave, but I guess I was just so frazzled…lol.

  17. Aw, poor Thunder! But he forgave you even before you got home to let him out of the room.

Don’t feel bad…one day when I was still working, I forgot to give Callie and Shadow clean drinking water before I left for work. Hubby had left about 30 minutes before me, so I couldn’t call him. Luckily, I had a good supervisor who was very understanding. He laughed and said “go ahead and be careful!”
