Recently we had a heat wave.  When the temperatures soar, it can be hard to find ways to exercise senior dogs.  But if you can find a nice clean pond, it is no problem…

Thunder, Age 9

Storm, Age 8

Water adds a lot of resistance while keeping the dogs cool.

Have a nice weekend!

  1. Great action shots! We swim all summer in our pool! It’s the perfect summer workout!

  2. We’re adding 2 ponds to our property. They’ll be huge and we’re hoping to see the dogs jumping in for fun. Scout will have no trouble with swimming, but we’re not sure about our other 3 dogs.

I’ll be coming back here to read more about your dogs and ponds. I love that they’re so active. This is what we want our dogs to experience.

  3. Swimming is so fun and such a good workout, but around here there is so much pond scum and algae this time of year, we have a hard time finding a place to take a dip.

  4. Awesome photos! I especially love the one of Thunder emerging from the water.

  5. So cool (literally!) that you have clean ponds in your neighborhood! We have one just 5 minutes walking distance from our house, but it’s not really clean, so I’m not letting the pups dive in.

  6. I wish we had that option!! I would jump right in the pond with the dogs!!

  7. Clean is important, we used to swim Chessies in the river, not advisable of late. Fortunately we have friends with ponds, none closeby but it is worth the drive. Macha at 11 is the super, fitness Queen! It will be a great weekend working witha herd of Chessies!

  8. Around here, I’m worried about the deadly blue-green algae that blooms in August and September, dogs die from it every year. To keep them in shape during the hot part of the year, I work them out on the treadmill.

  9. I wish we had nice clean ponds around here. I know Delilah would love to do some swimming!
