Getting out for exercise in the winter can be a challenge.  The days are short and sometimes the weather does not cooperate.  As long as the brown dawgs have a forest or some snow piles handy they can get a great winter workout.

Winter Workout

Recently Thunder and Storm went for a walk in the forest.  The snow was a bit crunchy, but not too hard and not too icy so we were not worried about injury.  Plowing through and jumping over the brush makes for a great workout for our two senior dogs.

This is a great workout for the dogs’ rear legs.

On the road heading home Thunder and Storm were not done with their workout.  They also found some snow piles to jump over.

This works the dogs’ legs and core muscles and at the same time have a ton of fun.  They came home tired out and slept well that night.

Have a nice weekend!

  1. Winter is a pain in the butt when it comes to exercising our dogs; especially Sydney who isn’t very playful, doesn’t play fetch, and doesn’t like the cold. I’ve finally figured out that she does like our mommy-and-me walks no matter what the temperature. They’re just shorter in the winter time.

  2. You brown doggies sure do have fun in the snow. Good for you and great exercise for you. You all have a great day.

  3. Woo-who! Look at how awesome you is – so much fun, and yup winter tends to bring out da fun in us doggies! Thanks for sharing your great exercise photos – I’m all eager to go outside and romp in da snow now!

  4. These types of workouts are Barley’s favorites, too. She also likes running in circles around a toy to bury it in the snow and then trying to dig it back out 🙂 We haven’t had enough snow to have piles for jumping over or climbing on, but we did have just enough to put a little extra spring in Barley’s step. Glad you got enough to get a good workout in!

  5. Winter is a great time for natural cardio workouts. We got more snow overnight, so our walk this morning had extra cardio having to trudge through some unplowed areas. We love it like you brown dogs do! Thanks for joining the hop.

  6. HA – I have no doubt that they came home tired and slept all night 😉 I loved seeing your pups’ waistlines in the jumping pictures…I’m a sucker for those. Consider them pinned on my board “Fit Dogs’.

  7. That looks like a blast! Snow really is great for exercising. We are going to get rain tomorrow. 🙁

  8. I let the guys run in the pasture and look for any birds that may have wandered in, but the crust on the snow causes our senior Labs a lot of trouble. They hate breaking through the snow although it is only a couple of inches deep, and just creep along.

  9. Sampson still does the occasional jump over a log or small pile, but nothing like he used to. Delilah’s still got the moves though, just like Thunder and Storm.

I like utilizing things in the environment.
