Brown dawgs love frozen dog treats.  I wanted to make them something special for Valentine’s Day but keep it easy and use ingredients that I had on hand.  I decided to make them a frozen treat with natural peanut butter and plain yogurt.

First I assembled my ingredients and got out a silicone mold so I could make make heart-shaped treats.  It is actually a candy mold.

Next heat the peanut in the microwave until it is soft and runny.  Heat it very slowly in a microwave safe container, (20 seconds at a time to avoid burning or scorching).  Once it is soft and runny, use a small spatula or a spoon to drizzle a small amount of peanut butter into the mold.

Then use a spatula to spread the plain yogurt into the mold, filling each heart completely.  Once the mold is full, tap it gently on the counter top to remove any air bubbles.

Finally, place in the freezer for several hours or over night.  You want the peanut butter good and hard before you pop the treats out of the silicone mold.

That’s it.  Easy!

Variation: You could add in some fresh strawberries if you are lucky enough to get your hands on some.  Unfortunately the strawberries around here look horrid and cost a fortune this time of year so I left them out.

The Finished Product

Once the peanut butter and yogurt have frozen solid, just pop the treats out of the mold.  I used a mold that made small treats, but you could use any sized mold and adjust freezing time.

They look yummy, but brown dawgs will have to wait until Valentine’s Day to sample them.

  1. Thanks for sharing that pawsome recipe! I’ll so be making some – I happen to have pb, plain greek yogurt (I eat some for breakfast every morning) AND a heart shaped mold (for icecubes) on hand!

  2. Those look yummy! Too bad Oz doesn’t eat peanut butter. I think he is the only dog on the planet that won’t eat peanut butter. I would have to put something else on the top.

  3. So cute! I like the strawberries idea too, but I definitely understand the not being able to find good looking ones this time of year. These sound delicious and like they’d smell really nice too honestly!

  4. Oh those are great!! Will definitely be making some of those. I have a recipe section on my website, would you mind if I posted this recipe there with proper credit of course.

  5. Emma is right, they do look so fancy, and I know the crew would love these. And I love easy recipes that they will love!
I need to get some more of those molds too. I have bones and paw prints, but I’d like some holiday shapes as well.

  6. Poppy has some yogurt and we always have PB on hand. Sometimes I think I am conducting a cooking school with Chessies as students! Ours love to sit and watch, intently. And, yes, they hope to lick, taste something. It is a test kitchen every meal. They could give Ratatouille a run for his kitchen! Seldom make a special treat, but those hearts are difficult to resist!
