Except for hunting, there is nothing our Chesapeake Bay Retrievers like better than retrieving bumpers. If it is a nice sunny day, all the better.

Saturday it was cool (the day started with temperatures in the high 30’s), but sunny with a bit of wind.  This is just about perfect weather for hunt test training.  The dogs did a series of 3 blind retrieves which required them to get into the chilly pond (more on the set-up in another post).  It was a bit cold for water work, but Freighter is a Chessie and a hunting dog, so cold water does not phase him.

The light was perfect for photos and I got some nice ones of Freighter.

Not a bad way to spend a Saturday in April.

How was your weekend?

  1. Grand fun! Well, the mowing has started ~ if we didn’t live in the city I would consider sheep Just noticed redbuds are ready to blossom, hope they do not get caught in heavy rain. There are two sun dogs waiting to head our for a long walk, No river, fishermen and runoff!

  2. Great pix, Linda!! The girls and I spent most of the weekend playing – and chilling out – in the back yard. The fresh air tends to make Ducky sleep better, even when she spends more time sunbathing than chasing her Kong Bounzer or running the fences with the neighbors’ dogs.

  3. Our weather was decent – sunny but rather chilly. I worked on house projects and then went to visit my elderly aunt who is going into surgery soon. Hubby took care of entertaining the “kids” for the weekend with ball playing, but I always kind of miss it when I don’t get to do it!

  4. Great pics of your fit pups! We walked past a pond at a park this weekend and saw a water moccasin snake swim through it…yikes.

  5. Last weekend turned out to be quite nice for us. I love the photos of Freighter, he looks so happy and in his element.
