At 10 years of age Thunder is still very active and likes to run. He demonstrated this for us last weekend when he did a senior dog sprint.
Thunder had a bit of a break from running and training due to his neuter surgery earlier this month. He is fully recovered and feeling better so why not get out for a little exercise? We set up a simple double in the park. It was a warm morning so we did not want to overdo his first day back. Thunder had other ideas and ran at full speed toward one of the bumpers.
Do you have any senior dogs in your household? Do they like to sprint?
Thunder I’m so happy that efurrything went well with that surgery… and you are still as mighty and impressive as your name… and your brakes are in fabulous shape too LOL
These days Katie can barely walk, but up until she was about 12, she enjoyed sprinting with us in the yard.
My dog is ten years old but still runs around the yard just as fast as he did when he was pup.
Macha is 11 3/4….she can do the sprint but saves a lot of energy for her launches into any available pond!
With the hot weather this weekend, the girls will be walking early and swimming at twilight. Macha likes the warmth of the pond’s surface water.
Isn’t it terrific to see Thunder in such good condition, with the ability to do what he enjoys! And thinking he is invincible!
I’m so glad that Thunder is back to sprinting and doing what he loves! As you know, we have lots of senior dogs at our house — At 14 years old, the games our boy Josh played as a young dog aren’t played much at all these days, but the spark is still there, and that’s what matters!
I hope you have an enjoyable weekend!
Ooops – a little out of practice. Jack doesn’t do much sprinting anymore, and Maggie is a scamperer.
Hi Y’all!
You go Thunder! So glad you’re feelin’ great again!
Since we share a birthday day and year, you already know we’re the same age…and if it’s not too hot I love to sprint, even up and down the mountains when we’re there.
Y’all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
The only kind of sprinting Daisy will do in her old age is to her food bowl or to claim her favorite blanket. We always say her breed is Napper rather than Havachon. 😉 Thunder looks amazing for his age!
Happy to see that Thunder is feeling much better and true to form!!
Shadow still loves running after the tennis balls that I throw with the ChuckIt! launcher. Sometimes – when her arthritis is a little bothersome – she runs a little slower; but for the most part she does really well for an 11-year-old Golden Girl. The only time she really has a hard time keeping up with Ducky is when Ducky has a zoomies attack.
That is great when a 10-year-old sprints so fast that he overshoots his target! Bentley enjoys a good run after Pierre in the backyard.
He was just a little too excited to be out there again! 🙂
Even totally healthy, Sampson was never much of a sprinter, more like a trotter. 😉 But Delilah, she’s my sprinter, one of the things I love to do with her is give her a ‘go check’ command. This lets her off the leash for a quick burst of running and then she comes right back.
Glad to see Thunder is feeling like himself!
Pretty adgile for a senior. Love to see him work.
Sophie is 13 and her sprinting is more like hopping on her front legs, but she still tries!
