Thunder is a senior dog.  At 10+ years old, there are times he looks and acts like a senior dog.  However, all he needs is for someone to toss a training bumper into a pond and he turns into a young dog ready for some summer fun.

Thunder Is Ready For Some Summer Fun

Last weekend Thunder was out doing a little training to get ready for hunting season.  Since he was a puppy, Thunder has always powered his way into the water when making a water retrieve.

The bigger the splash, the better!

Thunder did several nice water retrieves and although he was tired afterward, he did not show any signs of lameness or stiffness.  Hubby has not decided how much to hunt Thunder this upcoming season.  It really depends on how well he recovers from being out in the cold water.  Basting into the water on a warm summer day is one thing, blasting into a cold pond is another.

  1. He does so pawesome retrieving those bumpers and splashing!! I think he deserves Olympic gold for his skills 😉

  2. Thunder gets the gold for water splashes! I love seeing a senior dog who’s still so active. He’s really having a good time!

  3. Water, water, water. Macha is content to swim and submarine. Erynn has learned o chase frogs from the bank and to sneak up n fish! The best pond for this is McNutts. There is the ball retrieving pond and the weedy pond. Year ago we had a rescue golden who would limb a 12′ high ladder an shoot off the slide headfirst into the pond!

  4. Thunder, one of the cool things about being a senior is being able to just swim in the summer – like me!

    -Otto’s senior mom 🙂

Otto loves to chase sticks in a certain pond where we walk in the summer. Same place Bart and Gizmo learned to swim. It’s kinda the rottrover place 🙂

  5. I love the splashes….go Thunder! Isn’t it great to see senior dogs doing so well? Cricket is like that too – in the evenings she’s completely passed out, acting her old age of 11. But in the mornings or any time you get that ball out, she’s raring to go!

  6. Those are some serious splashes! Love them!! Missy & Buzz are both suckers for water as well, especially Missy. Too bad we don’t have our own pool. We’d all have a blast!
