You never know when you might face an emergency and need pet first aid.

We spend a lot of time out in the field with our dogs so a basic knowledge of pet first aid is important to us.  Last month we were excited to learn that we won a ProPetHero Pet First Aid and CPR course from Dolly the Doxie.

Storm Heading Out To A Water Retrieve

This video course is broken into sections and covers a wide variety of topics, including:

  • What you should have in your first aid kit;
  • Illnesses, like vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, loss of appetite, body temperature emergencies and more;
  • Injuries, wound care, fractures, burn care, how to safely move an injured pet;
  • Poisoning, snake and spider bites and allergies;
  • Respiratory emergencies and choking;
  • CPR

The course is about 1 1/2 hours long and thank goodness that you can watch in sections because summer is a busy time for us so I have been taking the course section by section.

I have taken other pet first aid courses and of course we have a pet first aid book but this video course is great because it includes demonstrations.  I particularly liked the section on how to restrain an injured animal, including how to make a make-shift muzzle.

Thanks so much to Dolly the Doxie for hosting this fabulous give-away.  We feel so fortunate to have won this one!

Have you taken a pet first aid course?

  1. Sounds like a great course! All of my first aid knowledge has come from reading–and I’m a very visual person, so I think it’s great that the videos have demonstrations! We’ll have to look into that.

  2. It does sound like a great course. If you don’t work in the Veterinary field and are able to know this stuff I think it is great for the other peeps that have dogs and need to know about first aid. Anything can happen at anytime and it’s always better to be prepared.

  3. This is a great reminder for me to sign up for a Pet First Aid course. I know enough to get our dogs to the vet quickly (which was a good thing when Scout had a high fever). But there aren’t many other emergencies that I’m prepared to handle and a course will help.

    Thanks for the push.

    1. Thanks again Dolly. I am looking forward to finishing it up.

  4. We took one back when I had my pet sitting business. It was great, but it’s easy to forget these things when you don’t have to put them into practice. I like the idea of a video that you could perhaps refer back to for a refresher.

  5. I’ve been meaning to take a First Aid class but there aren’t any being offered in my area. This sounds like a good alternative. I do have a book, but you’re right, seeing a video demonstration makes it much easier to understand. Thanks for the tip and congrats for winning the course from Dolly!

  6. Oh that course sounds great… we should do it too… the mama once learnt it the hard way that dogs are no humans and first aid for dogs can be different. Congrats that’s a fabulous and super impawtant prize!!!
