Where is the coldest spot on the field?  The place where you stand to throw training bumpers for the dogs.

That is where I found myself on Saturday.  You see we wanted to get the dogs out for exercise ahead of a snow storm predicted for Sunday so we headed out to the local soccer field.  It was a cold windy morning and we figured the park would be empty.  It was.  We had the whole place to ourselves so we were able to stretch the dogs out.  I grabbed a bucket of bumpers and hoofed it way out in the field.

Once I got out there, I threw several bumpers for each dog.

The dogs had a blast, but by the time we were finished, I was frozen.  Like I said earlier, we were expecting a snow storm on Sunday.  A old family friend who was raised on a farm used to say that when the wind is cold like that, it is “blowing off a snow bank”.  I think that is true because we got a pile of snow on Sunday (more on that in another post).   Sunday we stayed home and watched the snow fall, but on Saturday I was standing on the coldest spot on the field.

  1. Well, it seems the cold weather doesn’t deter the Brown Dawgs from their retrieving fun!

  2. I agree… I always picked thew coldest spot too… and I felt like ice aged within minutes :o)

  3. You need to be running like them in order to stay warm! We got the same type of weather as you, it was darn cold for a few days and then we got a snowstorm today. It wasn’t quite as big as we’d hoped, but we did get a few inches to add to what was already on the ground from two smaller storms.

  4. Brr! My new puppy Rye is very good at bringing the ball back, so I got very cold standing in the snow playing with her this weekend–Barley prefers to take her toys into the middle of the yard and bow and wait for me to go to her and get it to throw it again, so she keeps me moving and I stay warmer. I feel your pain!

  5. I keep saying that I want to visit snows, but physical discomfort?? No thanks! Kisses to everyone!
