This time of year can be a drag.  The days are short and the weather is not great.  To overcome the blahs, I like to do a craft project or two.  I could not get it together to plan anything grand this year, but I did pick up a gingerbread house to decorate.

Last weekend we were kept inside most of the day by a snow storm so it was the perfect opportunity to get out my kit and work on it.  As I opened the kit, I noticed Storm and Thunder were both sacked out on their beds snoozing away.  They had been out playing in the snow and needed to recharge their batteries.  They are both senior dogs…Thunder is 10 and Storm is 9.  In their younger days a little snow storm would not have been enough to tire them out, but now a romp in the snow resulted in a nap.

The minute I opened the kit, the smell of gingerbread must have wafted over to them because the next thing I knew, the brown dawgs came over to see what I was eating.  No brown dawgs I am not eating.  I am decorating.

I do not think they believed me.

Thunder tried his hardest to get a better sniff.

After a bit Thunder figured out this treat was not going to be shared.

Storm tried a different approach.  She stood there staring at me drooling.

The brown dawgs finally figured out that they were not going to get any of the gingerbread house and went back to napping.  I had to finish it on my own.  This kit had Rudolph the red nosed reindeer as the theme.  If you remember the show, then you might recognize the characters.

Do you have any craft projects planned?

  1. it’s beautiful… and tas so proud he color fits so perfectly to brown dawgs :o) I amde one with my granny once, I was so proud that we created something beautiful together… and then we placed it on the window sill that the sugar stuff can dry… the berds had a fat pawty and ruined my poor house ;o(

  2. So cute! My friend who also has herding dogs and I tried to make a gingerbread barn kit one year–the roof collapsed before we even got any of the decorations on the outside! I haven’t tried another gingerbread creation since. Rye is not into sitting still long enough to do any craft projects, so the closest I’ve come is stitching up the toys she’s ripped holes in 😉

  3. That looks adorable! I don’t think we could have one as cat bro Bert would, no doubt, eat it.

    1. I admit that when I finished it, I covered it in saran because I was pretty sure Nestle would eat it too.

  4. Our dogs would be confounded about the idea that you could be working with food yet not eating. 🙂 I’m afraid I’m not very crafty. Last year I bought some glass jars and ribbon to make treat jars, and found them with all my Christmas stuff this year (I think I bought them after reading your last year’s Xmas craft post!). They’re still in the bags. 🙂

  5. I love you gingerbread house it looks so nice. Haha, too bad, Thunder must have really wanted to try the bread house. Maybe better luck next time.
