Home Again

Storm came home on Sunday.  The first thing she did was look all around the house for her puppies.  She looked in every nook and cranny.  Apparently you never know where puppies might be hiding.  :)

Once she figured out that her pups weren’t here, the next most important thing was to check out her yard.

Storm will start back to light hunt test training.  She is out of condition and her milk is not yet all dried up so we will not run her in high cover or swim her.  We do not want any stimulation to make more milk because we would like to get her nice tuck up back as much as possible.  Friday I wrote about coats.  She is really blowing hers.  In fact she has bald in spots with no fur at all.  This is normal after pups and will probably get worse.  She won’t win any beauty pageants any time soon.  :)

Welcome home Storm!

Monday Mischief–The Helper

Being the helpful retriever that he is, Thunder likes to help carry things whether you need his help or not.  After training recently he helped to carry one of the bumpers back to the car.

Follow-up Friday 5-17-13

It’s Follow-up Friday!  Jodi from Heart Like A Dog is off having fun at the Blog Paws conference and left me here to hold down the fort as co-host.  I always enjoy co-hosting:

The blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

First, I want to apologize to those of you who tried to enter you link for This ‘N That Thursday yesterday.  I checked around 2 pm and finally the linky was working.  Thanks so much to those of you who came back to enter your links.  If you wanted to enter your link and couldn’t, the hop will be open for a couple more days.   :)

Follow-up Friday 5-10-13

There was some discussion in the comments about Chessie coats.  Chesapeake Bay Retrievers have several coat styles and depending on where they are in the cycle of their coat, (full coat, summer coat, etc.) they may all look different.  The most important thing is for Chessies to be double coated which means that you should not be able to see skin.  However, when our dogs are out of coat, they will shed right down to their skin.

Here are some examples of our dog’s coats.  You will notice that all of our dogs have slightly different coat styles.  Thunder’s is quite short.

The next picture is Thunder at the end of his summer coat.  You can see his coat is pretty smooth.

Storm’s coat is a bit longer than Thunder’s on her back and the sides.

Freighter’s coat is between Thunder’s and Storm’s.  It is fairly long and curly on his back but short on the sides.  Of course he won’t get his actual adult coat until this Fall/Winter.

Monday Mischief-Winter Again!

It was in the 40′s on Sunday and the 80′s on Wednesday.  Crazy crazy Spring!

Did you catch the picture of Thunder’s handler from Sunday with winter garb on?

Freezing

Bingo!

I had fun doing this.  If I get my act together, I may try one for Storm and Freighter.  It might be cutting it close, but maybe I can get it done.

If you haven’t played yet, check out the links on my post and try it!

That’s it for this addition of Follow-up Friday.  Thanks again to Jodi for asking me to co-host.

We have a hunt test this weekend.  None of our dogs are entered, but we are working the test.

Have a nice weekend!

This ‘N That Thursday

Welcome to the This ‘N That Thursday blog hop!

A little of this and a little of that and everything in between…

After we finished up running some blind retrieves last Sunday we ran Thunder on two series of land double marks.

Both Doubles Are Shown On This Diagram And We Threw A Diversion On The Second Series

Thunder pinned the double in the first series so we moved the next series back and over a little and added in a diversion bumper.  The second time around, Thunder had to hunt a bit on the double but he stayed with it and came up with the bumpers.  Both doubles could have been a challenge for Thunder because they were down a hill, in cover and the wind was swirling.  Thunder has had limited training on hills and with cover, but he did a very nice job with these marks.

I was operating the winger, throwing a bumper, shooting a starter pistol and trying to take pictures.  I managed to get a few pictures of the marks.  It was cloudy, but as the day wore on, the sun made a few short appearances.

I also got a couple of nice pictures of the geese that were hanging out on the pond.
