There were grand plans for training this week, but things don’t always work out as planned. Tuesday and Wednesday we had heat advisories with highs each day of 97 degrees and heat indexes in the 100’s. By the time evening rolled around, it was too hot to train. We didn’t even want to train in the water. At least the 2 brown dawgs got out to train on Monday and Thursday.
They worked on some pattern blinds and some go-where-you-are sent drills. Thunder’s handling is very nice. Storm is still being stingy with those left overs, (the thing that did her in at the last hunt test). She does them, but they are done grudgingly. She got to do a bunch of left overs on Thursday. She is going to do more left overs until they are automatic with her. Both dogs also ran a cold blind on land. Storm needed a few handles (including a left over, which she did very nicely). Thunder line blinded it, meaning he ran straight to it. (Must make these longer and harder for him.) We also need to start having them run blinds along side where they have run marks because that is what is required in a test. We plan to do this the next time we run marks.
On the water, we hand threw a triple and then selected which bumper the dog would pick up (go-where-you-are-sent). Storm was obviously super excited to train in her favorite pond again, because she launched herself at the bumpers.
Thunder hit the water hard, but he didn’t launch himself like Storm did.
I have some nice pictures of their land work which I will share in another post.
