This week’s challenge is to look at the angle of our pictures:
The challenge this week is for you to post a couple of pictures……..one bad and one good of the same sort of subject. Do a critic of your own work.
Regular readers to this blog may recognize some of these pictures. I had quite a time trying to photograph the 2 brown dawgs with their ribbons this past summer. Not only were they not cooperative, but I had a difficult time with getting the angle right. A couple of examples:
Poor
Better
Poor
Better
This is an ongoing learning process for me. I need to try to get a bit lower when I take these kinds of pictures. If the 2 brown dawgs earn more ribbons next summer, I hope to improve a lot on these pictures. 🙂
I can’t take animal pix at all, so they all look good to me!
I am always trying different angles on the Newfs, it’s amazing what a few adjustments will do!!
These are great captures. I can really see the difference changing your position made. Either way, your pups are always gorgeous in any photo! : )
The second shot shows the dog off a LOT better. I hope he’s proud of all those ribbins 😉

Way to go ! They are accomplished dogs! Practice makes perfect and the second shots are better:)
Good choices.
The second shot is definitely the best shot. Good job!
When I get down to Bongo’s level to take his picture he usually ends up jumping on top of me.
The 2nd photo in the 1st set is really lovely. I would have tightened the crop just a little wee bit (or adjusted your angle) so as not to have that little bit of black (the entrance to the house) in the photo.
BUT
CONGRATULATIONS on two GORGEOUS dogs!!!!
Good choices, I am learning that too, get lower, eye level in order to capture the right angle. Although sometimes those shots we think are bad turn out kind of cool! I also have a bad habit of not noticing shadows and such in the photo when I’m taking it but I’m working on that 😉
you know where i prefer to shoot from with our animals, if i can help it (and remember, lol)? from not just their level, but from BELOW them. gives them a more commanding presence in the photo. but then again, from that angle it might be complicated to all their ribbons the right amount of justice…. hmmmmm….. 🙂
It’s great to see the before and after shots!! Mum was reminded to ‘get lower’ by Alfie’s Mum last week as she keeps forgetting – I think she’s just being a bit lazy! Tee Hee
Actually, I think she’s just relieved when she gets a shot where I’m not moving regardless of the angle, I’m a bit of a fidget – but I am just a pup! 🙂
Have fun,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
I took a ribbon picture of Rugby today, where I wasn’t on his level. I did it so that the glare from the frame wasn’t so bad, and I couldn’t help but to think of this post! Now I need to plan a time I can re-take the picture inside so we can get rid of both the glare AND the awkward angle!
nd Thunder dont like photographed together?
oppps! Storm was missing in above comment.
They are getting better at it, but most of last summer, Storm was off with a pro trainer. 🙂
I sometimes find it difficult capturing what I want in a picture, I think it is more operator error than anything else, but I do think a better camera would help as well. 🙂
All those pictures look great and those ribbons are just amazing. Hugs and nose kisses
Nice photos!
I like all of them..:-)
