Storm had a great day of hunting at Fish Point.  There were some ducks flying, but there were only two birds to retrieve.  One was a rather long retrieve through some corn, but it was no problem for her.  The other retrieve was a bit more of a challenge.  It was a cripple diver duck in shallow water.  It kept diving and moving.  Storm kept sticking her head under to find it, but every time she got to the bird, it dove again.  When she finally got near it, she just couldn’t get the thing in her mouth no matter how hard she tried.  Those diver ducks can be tricky.  🙂

Morning hunting was in the bay.

And that may wrap up hunting season 2011 for the 2 brown dawgs.  Firearm deer season opens today in Michigan.  Woodcock is closed.  Grouse is closed until December 1 and then reopens until January 1, (might get more grouse hunting in depending on weather).  Waterfowl is open until December 4, but there will probably be no opportunity to hunt waterfowl again this year.  Pheasant is a possibility, but rumor has it we will be very busy after the first of the year.  😉

All and all was a great season for the 2 brown dawgs!

  2. Your pictures are so beautiful. Glad to hear Storm had a good day, can’t wait to hear what’s going to be keeping ya’ll so busy. 🙂

  3. Good attempt at trying to blend into the scenery, but I could still see you buddy!! 🙂

You guys get to hang out in the most amazing countryside – love the pics –

    Glad you’re having fun,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

    1. Yeah Storm kind of stood out. 😆 It is cool in those managed hunting areas, they plant corn and then flood it for the hunting season. Sometime you have to come and see our Great Lakes if you never have. They are something. 🙂

  4. Beautiful photos once again. I hate to think of injured ducks, but I guess that’s the unfortunate side of hunting.

I look at Storm waiting on her stand with that intense look on her face, just waiting for something to retrieve, and I can almost hear her saying, “Hey, it’s what I do!” 🙂

    1. That is the reason I do not hunt. I know I would be a crummy shot and I just would not like wounding birds. I am told Storm was really good on the stand and didn’t want to sit down the entire time she was out there (might miss something don’t you know :)).

    1. Yes real ducks. Sometimes a shot is missed and so the bird is not dead. Diving ducks will dive. Obviously you would prefer a clean shot, but if not then most hunters try to find the bird they shot rather than leave it and waste it. A good hunting dog will try to retrieve a wounded bird. That is their job, (but it is not planned or preferred to have wounded birds). Thanks for letting me clear that up. 🙂

      1. Thanks. I thought you guys were just practicing so I was a little surprised. My mistake. We have no issues with hunting as long as the game is fully used (not killed for sport and left…not that we think you would do that). I never thought about the wounded ducks diving issue. Makes sense.

  5. Great photos!

Do the dogs get to accompany while deer hunting? A couple of deer and you can stock the freezer with dog food for the winter! Moses and Alma are huge fans of deer bones we get from friends.

    1. No dogs don’t get to go. Which I am sure will cause pouting because they already saw the gun case getting ready. If we get a deer, we send it out for processing so no bones come back for doggies. I suppose I could ask for some, but my freezer will be full enough with the meat and sausage I have the processor make. 🙂

  6. Just catching up with your posts…what gorgeous pictures! Especially love the ones of the long row through the tall plants (WHAT are they??) – Storm is modelling beautifully in them! 🙂
