Its Friday and the 2 brown dawgs just want to have some fun.

Let's Have Some Fun
Throw The Kong Please
Throw The Ball Please

Unfortunately Storm had a little injury to her foot while out hunting last weekend.Β  I noticed she was licking her back paw and when I checked it, I found it was red and swollen between her toes (in the webbing).Β  She must have stepped on something.Β  I tried home remedies for three days but it wasn’t getting better.Β  In fact it looked worse on Wednesday than it looked on Monday.Β  Of course she kept licking it which wasn’t helping.Β  Since it was on her foot, we decided to take her to the vet and have him look at it and possibly prescribe some sort of ointment.Β  The vet prescribed an antibiotic ointment with cortisone.Β  The vet was debating with himself whether to give a round of antibiotics so we discussed it.Β  Storm has never had antibiotics, so we decided to give a round since a foot injury can be prone to getting badly infected quickly.Β  (No doubt it would be after regular vet hours requiring a trip to the expensive ER vet.)Β Β  That ointment is good stuff.Β  After a day and a half of the ointment her foot is much better.Β  Not healed, but not looking like it is getting infected.Β  She also isn’t licking it so it must not hurt anymore.Β  Of course I have tried to discourage her from running around the yard.Β  I know, lots of luck.Β  πŸ˜†Β  She should be good as new in a day or two.

Have a nice weekend!

  1. I’m always finding cuts and scrapes on the dogs after they’ve been running in the woods. Good thing you caught it quick and got it taken care of.

Hurry up and feel better Storm! Happy Friday!!

    1. Injuries are a problem for active dogs, but considering how active ours are, they really haven’t had many injuries requiring vet care. Usually it is Thunder who has had cracked nails and ripped pads. πŸ™‚

  2. Glad that she’s feeling a little better! Hope she’s able to run around and enjoy herself this weekend.

  3. I’m so glad Storm’s foot is doing better. I think it’s great that your vet is cautious with antibiotics, too many doctors (both people and pet doctors) reach for wide-spectrum antibiotics at the drop of a hat. It’s also great that your vet gave you a local antibiotic cream rather than a pill that would go through Storm’s whole system. Sounds like you’ve got a great doctor there!

Have a great weekend and enjoy all that Kong and ball throwing! πŸ˜€

    1. I like the vets we use because they consider what medications they give and also whether the treatment is cost effective, (what will be the benefit vs the price). They also discuss and explain all treatment with us before they give it. The vet we used with our Golden did none of that. it was frustrating, like we were pulling teeth to discuss possible treatments. That is why we changed. Also, if for example we had to take Storm back for them to look at her foot again, there would be no additional office charge for the visit since it would be a follow up. I find them very fair with their pricing. πŸ™‚

  4. Poor Storm. I can relate to having a sore foot. I got a small sliver of wood jammed underneath my fingernail last night. It is swollen and sore. I sure feel like licking it πŸ™‚ I might have to visit a human vet so he can help me out πŸ™‚

    Happy Friday!

    1. Yes they are a pain, especially when they are on the bottom or in the webbing. She got out of her kennel this evening and proceeded to tear around the yard. Stinker.

  5. I hope storm gets feeling her best so she can play and run. I got a gash on my upper paw while racing down a ditch a few months ago. I didn’t even notice, but my MOM sure did. My vet was wonderful (a lot like yours) and got me all fixed up to race down the ditches and woods again. Have a great weekend.

  6. Storm, I hope you’re able to play catch again soon. Nothing worse than a hurt foot that keeps you from having fun.

    1. Apparently it doesn’t keep Storm fun having fun since she decided to tear around the yard this evening. Knew I should have put her on a lead. πŸ™‚
