Its Monday and time for the Monday Mischief Blog Hop.  The 2 brown dawgs really did not get into any mischief this weekend, (which is surprising because hubby was off hunting and I was taking care of them by myself).  However, since we are thinking puppies this week, I thought I would go back and share some Thunder puppy mischief.

He was our first Chessie, but who knew that this cute cuddly pup,

Thunder Cute At 8 Weeks Old

could also be this?

Mischievous Puppy

When we got Thunder we told his breeder that we wanted a hunting dog.  That meant a dog who was “birdie” with a lot of drive.  She delivered.  As a young pup, Thunder was either going 100 mph or dead asleep.  There just didn’t seem to be a slow speed with him.

Since he was such an active dog, there was no way to give him enough things to do to tire him out, at least not when he was a wee pup.  As a result he would get into any mischief he could find.  His mischief included:

  • Tug of war with your clothes
  • When walking on lead he would lag a bit and then jump up and tug of war with your clothes
  • Again walking on lead, stop and start jumping and refuse to walk
  • Randomly come up to us and chop on our arms, not in a mean way, but in a puppy mischievous puppy way (and those puppy teeth are sharp)
  • Run up and spring-board jump off of us, (especially when you are out in the yard in your work clothes)
  • Grab your shoes as you are taking them off, or putting them on, and shake them furiously while running around
  • Counter surf, once he was tall enough, (and he was the counter surfer deluxe because he was tall enough to get all the way to the back of the counter)
  • And my personal favorite, when it was time to go outside or into the crate…run around the square coffee table so that he was always on the opposite side to where you were so that you couldn’t reach him, or get a hand on him, all the while looking at you with that special mischievous glint in his eyes

Then one day when he was about 18 months old, all of that puppy mischief just sort of disappeared…..poof gone….and we got this:

Good Boy Thunder

Sometimes I miss those mischievous puppy days…

  1. Thunder was such a cute puppy! Rugby obviously didn’t have the same energy as a working or sporting dog as a puppy, but I am finally getting a glimpse into that chaos with some of our training friend’s puppies. Talk about keeping you busy! Phew! haha

  2. Thanks for joining our bloghop! Thunder sounds a bit like me – and I worry that I’ll wake up one day all grown up just like him! :o) I’m fourteen months old now, so that would give me another four months of puppy mischief. Bring it on! *waggy tail*

  3. What a cute puppy Thunder was! Those blue eyes are so striking. I can relate to some of the mischievous things you wrote about – Daisy *still* runs around the oval coffee table, making sure she’s on the opposite side from us when it’s bed time. I don’t think she’ll ever outgrow it!

  4. I love the puppy pictures of Thunder!! How adorable!
The part where he use to tug on your clothes while out for a walk made me laugh:)
Sherman was never really very mischievous as a puppy, but Leroy made up for that, heck he is still making up for it:))

  5. Oh for the puppy days!!

My Mum’s lucky cos even though I will be 2 in April my breed stay puppy for ages!! I’m planning never to grow up!! I love the chase around the table game just like Thunder, the humans are so not very good at this – did Thunder perfect the backward run too?! I find that very useful during this game, makes the game last way longer!!

Great to see Thunder’s puppy pics – even if Thunder is now hiding under the table cos you’ve dragged out his puppy pics!! Tee Hee

    Have a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  6. Love the puppy pics. Mom says she sometimes misses the puppy days. Which only ended a couple years ago (I’m 11 now) haha. But every now and then I take her back.

  7. I think Sampson was about two when he “got it.” I miss HIS puppy days although I am reliving puppy days with the 73 pound puppy.

What a cute puppy Thunder was, I wish they didn’t age as quickly as they do. 🙁

  8. Thunder was a darling puppy and is a beautiful dog. Bongo still does that counter surfing thing – every time I’m not around.

  10. oh my gosh what a CUTIE!

we’re pretty sure desmond’s going through his rebellious phase after his less-than-stellar beginnings, so he shares all his late-bloomer puppy crazies with us even though he’s almost 2.

  11. Found you on the hop! Following you now!

I once know a Chessie named Chessie!

I was raised with a Lab, so I know all about hunting, pointing and HIGH energy!

Rocket’s puppy eyes make up for the mischief, i am guessing!

  12. I’m sure they haven’t outgrown their mischievousness, either.

  13. Sooooo cute! I’m not sure golden’s ever fully outgrown their puppyness, and I know my boys would never walk that nicely beside us!

  14. Oh my word! My heart just melted at that first pic. Such a cute, sweet, pup. : ) Chessies are adorable as pups and then gorgeous as grown ups. : ) Miss Sadie did the same thing with the tug-of-war but it was with socks and her leash.
