And we won’t be training either because we have Thunder entered in his first HRC Finished hunt test.  Here is a description of the Finished test from the HRC website.

The Finished Hunt will have at least four (4) tests. These four tests shall consist of the following: (1) a multiple marked water retrieve, (2) a multiple marked land retrieve (either or both the multiple marked water retrieve or the multiple marked land retrieve must include an honor), (3) a water blind retrieve, and (4) a land blind retrieve. These blinds may or may not be included in one of the required multiple marked retrieves. *Part of the test must include a diversion as the dog returns to the retrieving line from any retrieve. At the option of the Judges, the hunt may include an upland game test. If an upland game test is to be run, this option must be announced in the Club’s Premium. Failure of a hunting retriever to pass any of the hunting tests will not prevent the dog from participating in a subsequent test unless the Handler is unsafe in handling a gun.

We are not really sure how he will do.  Thunder has been running so well in training, but one day this week he couldn’t do a blind to save his life.  Maybe it was because it was pouring down rain, or maybe he was having an off day.  Pass or fail, this will be a good experience for him.

I hope to get some pictures, but typically it is difficult at HRC tests. We have been to the grounds where this test will be held last summer when Thunder and Storm were running Seasoned hunt tests.  I took this picture of the corn field next to where we parked.  It is a pretty area.

  3. I love the pictures of Thunder and Freighter sleeping. My dogs rarely touch when sleeping never mind getting cozy together.

    I think Thunder will do great, from previous posts it looks like he enjoys what he is doing. Either way it will be a good experience for him and he will have fun, IMO that is what is important!

  13. I’m sure they’ll do well, everyone has an off-day from time to time. Sometimes when our guys have an off-day, when they can’t do something they normally do (or vise versa), I just let them have fun – it seems to clear their mind and they come back better the next time.
