Storm was the mischief-maker at this past weekend’s hunt test. She went to the line for the first series which was a triple with a shot flyer, a land blind and an honor. She sat next to her handler waiting for the birds. The first mark went off (the flyer), she crept two feet in front of her handler. The second mark went off and she was three feet in front of her handler. The third mark went off and she took off to fetch the duck. A break and she was out of the test. I don’t have any pictures from this past weekend, but here is one of the excited girl from April.
We will be working on Storm’s steadiness because in Master’s when the dog breaks it doesn’t get to run the rest of the test and misses the thing it really wants to do, which is retrieve the ducks. We hope Storm will eventually understand this.
Those of you following this blog’s Facebook page already know the big news from the weekend. Thunder earned his first Master pass! No mischief from him. He did a really good job. Congrats to Thunder, his handler, and a big thank you to Darrin for all of his help with Thunder’s training.
Thunder had a bit of mischief played on him during the test, but that will have to wait until tomorrow’s post. For now here is his ribbon picture.
This is a Blog Hop. Thanks to Alfie’s Blog, Snoopy’s Dog Blog, Luna, a Dog’s Life, and My Brown Newfies for setting up this hop. Please go to any of the sponsoring blogs to find out who else has been mischievous.
Steadiness is a big issue with Doggy, he gets over excited and sits right on front of you when you are going to throw whatever, when he does it I just ignore him. We both need professional training lol.
Congrats on Thunder’s ribbon.
Doggy is still a baby. Of course he is excited. 🙂 When they are young, it is a fine line. You don’t want to squash their desire to retrieve just to make them steady.
Nice job Thunder! Beautiful ribbon!
Thank Finn. Thunder is a good boy.
Storm…but on the ground! I’ve been there! just wish they wouldn’t do that at a test..a lot of money for no birds. congrats on thunders pass 🙂
Ain’t that the truth. Bright side–I am glad she was so excited to retrieve. Earlier this spring she looked like she didn’t really want to do it. She wouldn’t work consistently for my hubby or the trainer. For the most part, she didn’t look excited. Looking back I think it was because of the growth on her gum and it hurt her to pick up birds/bumpers. She is obviously all healed after her surgery which is a good thing. Guess we will refresh steady. 🙂
Interesting that Storm’s drive to go for the duck is what you’ll need to teach her doesn’t happen if she’s not patient. It sounds like a tough thing to teach.
Congratulations to Thunder!
Yes it can be difficult to train. It is very very difficult to duplicate the excitement of a hunt test in training. The dog’s excitement level increases 10 fold at a test. So steady in training does not always equal steady at tests.
Loving the mischief storm … and WELL DONE face lick for Master Thunder. I’m really impressed. *WOOF*
Thanks Bella!
Storm I don’t know how you keep your butt on the ground when it is all so exciting.
Blessings,
Goose
That is the question Goose. Glad you understand. 🙂
Storm
Congrats Thunder on your Ribbon!! 🙂
But I also have to say congrats to Storm on your Mischief! Tee Hee – Shame you had to stop the fun after that though buddy – doh! 🙂
Wags to all,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Yes she got no ducks and had to stay home the next day. Hope the mischief was worth it. 😆
Wow! A great big CONGRATS on Thunder’s accomplishment. Woo Hoo!
As for Storm, I guess you can have worse problems than over-excitement to do her job. 🙂 Good luck helping her to figure it all out.
Thanks! Yes there are worse problems. Not going would be worse. We can work on steady. It is hard to work on not going.
Storm sounds like Delilah when she is put on her place. She does the slow creep until she is completely off. Silly girls. 🙂
Again congrats on Thunder’s first Master’s pass, I know how hard you all have worked getting him here.
Thanks Jodi. Those girl dogs. They really can push it. 😆
Congratulations Thunder! Well done!
Thanks Daisy. 🙂
Hey Storm, Hey Thunder, Jet here. Hi Miss Linda.
I’m not sure I would understand what I had to do, yet make mischief while trying!
CONGRATS, Thunder, good going Dude! Sending manly man chest bump!
I think Storm didn’t understand what she was to do either. She knows sit and stay. I guess she was confused. 😆
Thunder says thanks Jet!
No doubt because she is a super brown dawg!
Most welcome, dude. 🙂
Congrats to Thunder and his handler!
Thank you. 🙂
Storm will learn soon! Good job Thunder!
Lovies, Miss Mindy
Thank you Miss Mindy. 🙂
Hi Y’all,
Thanks so much for stoppin’ by for a visit. I’m so glad y’all could make it!
Lots of applause and congratulations Thunder! Way to go big fella!
Y’all come back now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Thanks Hawk!
Oh, congratulations sweet Thunder…you are lookin’ mighty handsome wearing that ribbon. Good job!! We hope you get the hang of it all sweet Storm and can wait till time to take off so you don’t have to miss out on the test next time. Hugs and nose kisses
Thanks Chancy and Mumsy. We have an HRC test coming up in August and will be working on our sit/stays until then. 🙂
Oh Storm you must be patient for the birdies 🙂
Congrats again Thunder and Handler!!
Storm has no patience…lol…you have met her.
Thanks for the congrats.
LOL I really do think it is a girl thing 😉
Congrats, Thunder! You look really handsome and very royal in that nice ribbon!
Thank you very much! 🙂
We did see the photo on Facebook. Congrats to Thunder. I gather by your description that Storm would only get a penalty by creeping forward but is totally out if she breaks for the mark before she is supposed to.
Depends. Creeping is not a good thing because it usually leads to breaking. But depending on how far out she moved and the tolerance of the judges, sometimes they just ask you to re-heel the dog before sending it. They would probably lower a score (trainability maybe?), but you could make that up if she did well on the other two series. If the dog actually leaves…they are automatically dq’ed. (Technically by rule they get a zero score, again I think it is in trainability, and that means they cannot go on.)
Congrats Thunder! Better luck next time Storm!
Your pal, Pip
Thank you Pip! 🙂
Congratulations Thunder! You look great wearing your ribbon. Storm you will do better next time.
Bella and DiDi
Thanks Bella and DiDi.
Poor Storm, she was just so excited!
I love Thunder’s ribbon picture.
Thanks Jen. Finally a decent ribbon picture. I think Thunder was too pooped from the 2 days that he cooperated to get it done faster. 🙂
Way to go Thunder! Looking good with that Ribbon! I’m sure you’ll do better next time Storm. After all you helped complete this weeks mischief post. Way to go!
Take care,
Colby
That is true. Without Storm, I would have had no mischief to share. 😆
Congratulations to Thunder!
I had to giggle a little when I pictured Storm creeping:)
Me too. She sure likes to push the envelope. 🙂
Congrats to Thunder for his great Test and beautiful ribbon. And Storm your excitement is terrific now we just need to learn a little patience :/
Thank you. Patience is not Storm’s strong suit. 😆
Congrats to Thunder, and to you guys! he’s clearly a bit more cool under fire than Storm, but she’ll get there, especially with you guys training her 🙂
Thanks lexy and thanks for stopping by. Storm likes to things Storm’s way. 😆
Congratulations Thunder! You are one handsome guy and that ribbon compliments your looks! Way to go!
