Monday Mischief–Checking In On Future Mischief Makers

It was so much fun visiting with Storm’s pups.  I took a lot of cute pictures and have only been able to share a small number here.  They are quite the characters and of course ran around like little whirlwinds.

I had to wait for them to slow down a bit to get the pictures.

Sand Spring Chesapeakes asked: “how many bit your toes?”

Lots.  🙂  I happen to get a picture of one of them.

They were also fascinated with my camera case.

At dinner time they started out with a few bowls, but of course most of them ended up in one.  (I think they take after Storm on this one.)

While we were there we also ran into Storm’s half-sister Macha.  Isn’t she pretty?  She was concentrating on her person in this picture.  🙂

Working In Cover 2

We can only really get out to the training grounds once or twice a week.  On the days that we can’t, we are stuck training in the park on mowed grass.  These days are a good time to work on close together doubles or triples and some lining drills.

This is one drill that we do periodically with our dogs.  The purpose of the drill is to have the dog look and run past an old fall.  You can also use t to stretch the dog’s marking because they must look farther out each time.

You want to run this drill on a flat featureless field.  You also want to do this drill when it is not too hot out because it can be a lot of running.

To start throw a bumper either right or left.  The dog retrieves the bumper.  Walk off any number of paces (say 20) and throw a bumper in the opposite direction.  Dog retrieves that bumper.  Then pace off 20 paces again throw the bumper in the first direction.  Dog retrieves bumper.  Pace off 20 again.  Throw the bumper in the opposite direction and have the dog retrieve it.  You can also run this starting at the farthest point and walking toward the dog.

Line Drills

Emmadog asked what I use to create my diagrams.

I use Paint (Microsoft Windows).  It is not the easiest to use right off the bat, but I have been using it for a while and I find it works best for diagrams.  I have tried some photo editing programs, but they don’t work as well for me so I stick with this.

A few pictures from training last week.  These were double marks for Thunder and Storm and single marks for Freighter.

  1. Thanks for the puppy fix, nothing like a house full of mischief makers! That’s a great idea for stretching the dogs out, I’ll have to try it. I’ve been looking for a way to build a cheap launcher but with this exercise I may be able to get by without one.

  2. Thanks for joining the hop. I could just sit and look at your pictures all day. Love the “Good Boy Thunder” one. It’s perfect. And Storm’s puppies are just adorable, oh how I long to get my puppy fix on. 🙂

    Have a great weekend!!

  3. Those puppies are just way to cute, can’t get enough of them! Mom said she would never have thought of using paint to make the diagrams. Don’t know if we need diagrams but we know what to try if we do, something else for mom to tinker around with!

  4. You know, right, that every time you post puppy photos I’m not going to see anything but puppies? *swoon*

  5. Love the puppy pictures! Especially the chow-time shot! So cute! And the photos of your pups are so great too – their coats are lovely! Happy Weekend!

  6. Sigh. I think I am puppy sick. They are just so darn cute! 🙂

  7. I am most happy to get my puppy fix right here on your blog. I don’t think I could do the puppy thing again (or the diaper thing). I’ll just enjoy my adult dogs and look at your puppies.

  8. Great action shots! i lol when i saw the toe picture i bet u wern’t going to post that up then i go and ask about toes. lol still laughing. the pups are adorable storm done good.

  9. I found that too when I used paint, but if you would use it more I bet it would get easier. I did find it easy for marking on photos though. You got some really nice action shots, love the one of Thunder looking at you as he returns with the bumper. Oh puppies, puppies, puppies, I can close my eyes and smell that sweet puppy breath 🙂

  10. Great pictures of the dogs doing their training. Thunder looks like he is showing the bumper off to the camera, and Freighter looks like quite the powerful runner!

  11. I love all your pics, but wow, those puppy pics are ADORABLE! I want another puppy after looking at these! 🙂

  12. Puppies!!! 🙂 Congratulations – they are all so gorgeous!! And Storm is looking like a “yummy mummy” – great to see her enjoying back working already!

We’re finally slowly catching up with blog friends again – and we can see that you’ve been busy! Hope everyone is well –

    Slobbers,
