The brown dawgs will now demonstrate the proper way to hold a bumper.
Now the improper way to hold the bumper.
And what happens when you hold the bumper improperly?
Now Freighter will demonstrate in slow motion.
The proper hold makes all the difference with bumpers.
Thank you brown dawgs for that demonstration. 🙂

Great demo! Storm you’re doing well but you might need a little bit more practice 🙂
Great demostration! great pictures. glory will hold by the rope and shake it like a raccoon. i often think that must hurt.
Sometimes when the dogs hold the bumper by the rope it flaps up and hits them in the face…lol. I didn’t have a picture of that though. 🙂
Well that makes total sense! Thanks for the demo!
LOL brilliant demo pals. Of course those were just for demonstration purposes only????? I must practice those for next time I am out squirrel hunting. Have a marvellous Monday.
Best wishes Molly
that was a wonderful explanation! Thank you!
That was a great demo! It makes perfect sense actually. I would be afraid that they would fall and it would get pushed back in their mouths/throats. Makes me nervous!
How heavy are the bumpers?
Can’t help it… I love the cigar hold! lol
Storm smoking a cigar! They aren’t good for you girl! Thanks for the demo.
Hee-hee, the rope hold is cute though!
Very good advice! Sometimes Sistah Nalle holds her bone like a cigar and she or course easily drops it! Woooooowooooooo, Ku
Nice lesson in pictures. I bet they learn pretty quick the proper way since the improper way brings problems. They all look super wonderful, they are such beautiful dogs. Hugs and nose kisses
That was a great demo, thank you! It all makes perfect sense.
Great demonstration Brown dogs! And how nice of you to show us the wrong way just for the camera, as I’m positive you sweet well behaved dogs would never pick the bumpers up wrong on a test. 😉
Hmmmm….that makes me have more questions for yah. Do they get penalized on a test for dropping the bumper as long as they pick it up again? Do they get penalized for holding the bumpers wrong?
Thanks for the good lesson! I tend to prefer the rope hold myself.
Well I guess that does make sense!
LOL! I never would have thought there was a wrong way but you three clearly demonstrate that there is. 😀
I think I like that chewing hold the best.
I imagine they might also be trained where to hold the bumper because they have to hold the retrieved bird in a very specific place too?
Great demo! They sure look cute when they do it wrong though! 🙂
Good demo there…I’m sure they never do the ‘improper hold’ unless they need to do a demonstration. 🙂
So THAT’S how you ‘get a grip’!! Thanks for the demo Freighter, Storm, and Thunder 🙂
Well it may make running easier, but the other holds sure are cute! Great MM.
Those look really heavy, like they’re made of lead. I’d drop them if I had to carry them in my mouth.
I know the Cigar Hold is wrong, but it’s so cute!
So interesting, Im always learning something new on your blog 🙂
Great demo! I love learning all this stuff. I think someone else asked this too, but do they get penalized if they do an improper hold during a test?
Thanks for the great post on bumpers. I use a variety of bumpers, and noticed that if you use the wrong size – for example a bumper that’s too big for your dog’s mouth – they tend to carry it improperly. Do you have a preference between plastic and canvas bumpers?
We don’t use canvas at all, only plastic. They seem to hold those larger hex bumpers better. I have noticed that usually the holds start to slip when they are heated up and try to pant. We laugh about it, but don’t correct it.
