This is Nestle’s story.
Nestle doesn’t make many appearances on the blog because frankly she doesn’t do anything. Oh she plays like kitties do, but she won’t let me take pictures of her. She is not scared of the camera or against photo bombing pictures of the dogs, but she just will not hold still for me to take pictures of her. Even when I think she is asleep and pull out the camera, she really isn’t sleeping and springs to action once she gets wind of a camera being focused on her. Since the lighting is usually not great, mostly I get blurry pictures.
Nestle was born October 1, 2005. The date is a guess because she is a rescue. The rescue named her Nestle. (I would not have picked that name. It took me forever to remember her name. For some reason I kept calling her Hershey. :)) Nestle was rescued by Bottle Babies Kitten Rescue. The website is still up, but I do not think that rescue is still in existence. When it was accepting animals, this rescue took the smallest of kittens and would hand feed them because usually their moms were not around. Nestle was one of those kittens. The woman running the rescue told me that she carried Nestle around in her pocket when she was just a wee kitten. Nestle is still not a very large cat, weighting in at around 8 or 9 pounds.
The woman running the rescue was very attached to Nestle and raised her along with two large Labradors. However, she had too many cats and Nestle wanted to be an only cat so she went to live at the Petco for a bit in the hope that she would be adopted. When we met Nestle, we weren’t really looking for a cat, but it just worked out. We were told that Nestle would do fine with dogs, but not with other cats. We adopted Nestle in February 2007. She was around 16 months old. At the time the only dog we had was Thunder and he was not quite a year old.
Nestle is an indoor cat and likes her indoor world. She loves to look out the window, but wants no part of the outside world. She has traveled with us in our trailer when we used to go camping. She even went camping with us up the Upper Peninsula. (Hey those tiny showers in travel trailers are a great place to put the kitty litter pan. :)) We also take her to the cabin if we are staying longer than a couple of days. However, Nestle is a home body and really prefers to stay at home where it is familiar.
Nestle and Thunder get along, but Nestle is still weary of him since he is so much larger than she is. When Storm came along in August 2007, Nestle and Storm became best friends. I think Storm thinks Nestle is a puppy because she is always licking or nibbling on her fur. It looks cute, but then Nestle gets a crusty slobber on her fur and that is not cute.
In 2011 Freighter came along. I thought he and Nestle would be friends and she would have another puppy to play with, but it hasn’t worked out that way. Freighter plays too rough. He takes his paw and whacks her with it which she does not appreciate. (Although when Storm plays with her the exact same way she thinks it is fun…go figure?)
We give Nestle the run of the house so if she doesn’t want to be where the dogs are, she has a place to go. Since Freighter came she has pretty much avoided anywhere he is. She must be getting tired of that because lately she has not seemed to care whether he in a room or not. I also noticed that she doesn’t run when she sees him headed her way so maybe they will eventually be pals.
Nestle will be 8 years old next Tuesday. Happy Birthday Nestle!
Happy early birthday Nestle. What a story and nice of you to rescue her.
Happy birthday Nestle and we think you are adorable even if you don’t do much. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly
3rd last picture made me chuckle, especially with your story. Would love to see a picture of Storm mothering Nestle!! 😀
Happy birthday Nestle! You got some really good photos, I love that last one and even the profile pic at the top is great. I can just imagine when you brought Freighter home, Nestle must have though, “OH NO, not ANOTHER one!!” LOL What a wonderful little family you have. 🙂
Thank you for stopping by and wishing Zeus well! 🙂
And howdy Nestle… Happy Birthday!
LOVE that last photo!
We have one cat who loves dogs. She used to let our Rottie drag her around by the head.
What a sweet story. I LOL’d a couple of times and love how you called her Hershey. Perhaps that is your favorite chocolate?
I laugh at your description of the dogs playing with the cats. Our daughter has a cat named Ollie, who is very cool with the dogs. When they lived with us it would crack me up because Sampson would go up to Ollie where he was sleeping and stick his nose underneath him and give him a good nudge. This never phased Ollie a bit, he took it all in stride. With both of our daughters cats our dogs seem to think this is something smaller to play with. See a cat outside though…..OMG.
Once again Storm reminds me of Delilah, as Delilah and Bob would sit together in front of the window watching for chipmunks.
Cats decide for themselves and it seems like Nestle has chosen very definitely…she’s a cutie and earns props for holding her own in a household of 3 big brown dogs…great to finally meet here today
I think Nestle has a great home and secretly likes the dogs. They probably hang out when you aren’t looking 😉 We like our cats, but Bailie is rather rough on my cat bro Bert. Finally someone that stands up to him! Nestle is pretty too, rescue cats are great!
What a great story, thanks for sharing it. And, Happy Birthday a little early to one pretty kitteh!
Nestle you are a very pretty kitty! You keep those pups in line! Woooooowooooooooo!
Happy Birthday, Nestle! And congratulations sharing your home with all those big doggies.
Happy Birthday Nestle! It was fun to hear her story. It must be an adventure for her living with two big dogs. 🙂
Since this post is about Nestle…I figured it was only proper that I stop by! What do you mean “she does nothing all day?” She’s a CAT, that’s what we do! Don’t let us fool you, we may look like we are doing “nothing” but we are plotting, scheming, and solving life’s greatest mysteries. I say that Nestle needs her OWN blog……….blurry photos or not! Welcome to my world. Love, Cody http://www.catchatwithcarenandcody.com
Loved the story and the picture of Nestle and your beautiful dogs. I think that it is just taking Nestle time with Freighter. I think they will be pals one day. I have found cats to be very independent and do things in their time, not always our time.
Happy Birthday Nestle, hope you have many more beautiful and loving birthdays.
Love that you shared Nestle’s story today. How funny that you couldn’t remember her name at first! But her name suits her… a cat that shares a house with three large dogs is one sweet cat indeed. Love all the pictures! I love how she’s leaning back like, “Ack!” in the “Storm and Freighter attack” picture.
You’re very beautiful, Nestle. You should be still for the camera more often so mom can take pictures. Happy (early) Birthday!
Aww – happy early birthday, Nestle! She sounds quirky the way cats are, keeping the dogs in line – the same story at our house.
What a sweet story. Funny how Storm mothers her like that, even if it does mess up her fur. 🙂
I rarely write about mine either, pretty much for the same reason. They are both indoor homebodies and don’t do much either (aside for a few minor squabbles here and there, running from Leah – often after provoking her, or tormenting Toby by rubbing all over him when he’s trying to rest.)
Love that Nestle photo bomb! She’s such a beautiful cat and until you did the cat review, I had no idea you had one. Our cat, Skeeter, has her friend preferences, too. She and Rudy are besties, Jeffie and Rosie not so much. Go figure?!
Sweet! No pun intended. It’s interesting how she interacts differently with each dog. I’d like a cat again someday, but I think a cat would be too much for Pierson’s high prey drive to handle.
So much fun to meet Nestle. I’ve seen kitty cats on our walks, and I have to say they scare me a bit. Shhh, please don’t share that with your dogs!
Aww, I love cats. Nestle sounds so cute and sweet. I’m glad she can hold her own against the dogs. Pretty typical, wouldn’t you say? At least, that’s the case in my house, too. Enjoyed hearing her story.
Happy birthday, Nestle!
She is pretty. I have two cats living with me. I like to look after them. We play together, but it always has to be their rules – and they reserve the right to change the rules without telling me! But we get along very well.
The first line made me laugh, because my cats don’t do anything either! They also don’t get as much blog time for that reason. Conrad literally does nothing but eat and sleep, and Samantha, like Nestle, leaves when I approach her with the camera (I also thought she was sound asleep yesterday but she jumped up and ran as soon as I headed towards her).
I think you got some good photos anyway (I especially like the ones with the dogs), and I loved Nestlé’s story.
Great story, Nestle is a lucky cat.
