We like to take some time off work in October to go to the cabin and enjoy Autumn. It is the most beautiful time of year there.
This year finding a block of time to go was proving difficult because we have a lot going on at work. November is usually too late because the weather starts to change and can be cold and nasty.
We finally found some time to go last week. The only problem was that we decided to go at the last-minute. We ran around like crazy to get all of our stuff together, and headed off on Tuesday night.
We could not have planned any better. The weather was beautiful. Bright sunny days and cold nights.
The weather was perfect for upland hunting. I will have those pictures tomorrow.
We went to a local cider mill/apple orchard. Last year the apple crop was poor because of the drought, but this year apples are plentiful and yummy. They also make the best pies and pumpkin doughnuts.
The brown dawgs got out almost everyday to hunt. You would think there wouldn’t be much mischief. You would be wrong.
Someone made sure to keep watch over the neighborhood.
Someone had a little snack.
The same someone got into everything because he is a busy little doggie.
If you haven’t figured out who the someone is, I will give you a hint:
The only one who didn’t really get into mischief was Thunder. He was up early to hunt wood ducks on the river most mornings. By afternoon mischief was the last thing on his mind.
So now we are back and the time away was too short. (Isn’t it always?) Please be patient with me as I catch up. 🙂
Thanks to Alfie’s Blog, Snoopy’s Dog Blog and My Brown Newfies for hosting the Monday Mischief blog hop.
See who else is hopping!

What a beautiful getaway you had, and it wouldn’t be time off without a little mischief. 😉
Glad ya all got away and the weather was just perfect. A little mischief just added to the adventure.
Blessings,
Goose
BOL funny Mr.Bear had a nosectomoy. That was some mischief. Glad you had a good time at the cabin. Have a marvellous Monday.
Best wishes Molly
Gambler must of been channeling freighter. I giggled at the bears nose. He was just tring out his saw tooth art. Glad you found time to make it up to cabin. It looks beautiful.
So glad that you found time to get away! Love the pictures!
I think mischief is always the most fun when its not a home!
Lovely pictures! And beautiful weather always makes such great holidays! 🙂
Those pictures are absolutely stunning- autumn is the best time of year by far. You can’t beat the colours of the trees, the crisp weather and the introduction of pumpkins and comfort food! Looks like you all had a lovely time 🙂
what incredibly gorgeous scenery! we are hoping to go to the Franklin Cider Mill early tomorrow!
Hope you made it to the cider mill!
That looks so awesome! Even with the mischief dog. LOL
What a lovely place to get away. That bear may be part Pug or Bulldog with no nose. 🙂
LOl that is funny!
That first picture is stunning! It looks like a watercolor. I hope you frame a print!
Thanks I just might!
Oh the mischief. We love mischief at our house too. Poor Mr. Bear though….I wonder what was on his nose that made it so yummy?
Me too!
Beauwooowoootiful place! Cute bear tooowooowooooo!
Looks like a great place to get away to! Just couldn’t leave the mischief at home though, ha! 🙂
So glad you were able to get away and enjoy yourselves! Someday we’ll do that. Without children. *sigh*
Nothing better than a nice afternoon nap in the sunshine! Glad you had a great time, fall can be the best weather!
Wonderful pictures of gorgeous fall scenes. A little mischief always makes the day more interesting. : ) Love the picture of Thunder helping fix the tractor. Mr. Bear didn’t seem to mind that someone snacked on his nose. lol Your dogs are just so amazing and beautiful…love reading about them. Hugs and nose kisses
Oh, no!! Sweet Thunder we saw you last taking that nice nap being so good and typed your name as the one doing the mischief. We are so sorry! We knew it was that sweet boy Freighter that was enjoying himself to the fullest. Hugs and nose kisses
No worries. We knew what you meant! 🙂
That Freighter is a mischief maker…it even kind of rhythms. I love that photo of him. Great photos – what a lovely spot. Makes me miss fall – which we don’t really get here in SoCal.
Freighter just decided to add his own touch to the decor. Even if it’s not quite what the humans would like.
The time is definitely always too short! I’m glad your timing was good though, and you had beautiful weather….the scenery looks wonderful there. That look on Freighter’s face is perfect…he couldn’t possibly have really caused any mischief, he looks way too innocent!
BTW, we have the same furniture on our porch as you….the trunk Storm is standing on, and the chair next to it look just like ours! Now my hubby wants the nice windows also (our porch is only screen). 🙂
Our porch is screen too. I think you are seeing the windows that are on the house part. 🙂
That first photo was gorgeous. Shame shame Freighter. Trying to help is one thing, but taking the hose off the poor bear is another. Enjoy your fall! 🙂
Yes, Vacation is so very short, every time. It does look like you had gorgeous weather, that’s so wonderful!
At least Mr. Bear is kind of rustic anyway, right?
Right…lol.
It’s nice to meet you brown dawgs. You are a very different kind of working dog. I am just barely learning about retrieving… I have to or my people won’t throw the frisbee again! Anyway, I’m glad to know you had a nice vacation… that bear nose did look mighty tasty.
Cheers! ~Cooper of 2catsandacattledog.com
Beautiful country! It looks like the Chessies enjoy it as much as you.
Beautiful! We used to have a “cabin” in the woods too. Well, it wasn’t really a nice cabin or anything. More like a… building I guess lol. Anyways, it was always lots of fun as a kid to go out there and play in the woods. Poor Mr. Bear! Oh well, you can hardly notice hehe 😉
Looks like you had a great time and the weather was perfect. The leaves were turning (ours aren’t sadly) to make it really beautiful. Obviously the Chessies had fun and you got some really beautiful pictures. Yes vacation is always too short 🙂
what a lovely getaway! the first picture looks like a thomas kinkade painting! just beautiful.
wags, bailey unleashed
Glad you had a good break – I always seem to need one now so I can power through til xmas. Most people here take the whole of xmas and most of January off so this time of year gets even more busy as everyone winds up for summer hols. Bring it on!
Hi Y’all!
Now wait a minute here…let me play judge and jury…first, look at that innocent face…yes Freighter was helping to fix the tractor, as the photo shows, but that is a good thing…that’s what good Chessies do…help.
The evidence clearly shows that Mr. Bear stuck his nose where it didn’t belong.
I find Freighter NOT GUILTY!!!
Y’all come by now!
Hawk aka BrownDog
Looks like a fabulous getaway! For everypawdy except poor Mr. Bear!
Oh, no, Mr. Bear!
It looks like a great trip–I love October vacations. Chafing a little that we won’t get one this year.
Hey Storm
I high up view sure is the best hey buddy?! Especially if you had to do Thunders job too! 🙂
Glad you had fun
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
What a beautiful trip, even if it was short! Gorgeous photos!
You can’t blame the Brown Dawgs for wanting to get into some mischief… it is a mischievous time of year, after all. Poor Mr. Bear! Who knew bear nose was so delicious?
Love the story. Love the pictures. Poor Mr. Bear.
Poor Mr Thunder! Too sleepy for mischief!! XD … Storm looks like she belongs there 😛
Poor little bear! Looks like you had a great getaway!
Such a great week…I’d love to spend a few days in the mountains this time of year…
