Silly Freighter.  Sometimes he thinks the yard is a snack bar.  He will sniff around until he finds the right spot and then grab a clump of grass and try to eat it.  It won’t be long before the ground is frozen and the snack bar will be closed.

Maybe I Will Grab A Bit From This Spot
Sniff, Sniff
Yum, Yum
I Think This Is A Good Spot
I'll Spit It Out
OK…I’ll Spit It Out
But I Am Not Happy About It
But I’ll Get It Next Time

  1. We are so there with Freighter. My speciality is Spring grass but all grass makes me sick so peeps shouts at me. Have a marvellous Monday.
    Best wishes Molly

  2. Del eats grass when we’re on the meadows, although it never makes him ill. It’s probably because our back yard is paved and he gets excited to see some greenary 🙂 Lovely pics as always x

  3. Freighter and Bailie must know something the rest of us don’t. She loves to eat grass clumps, we had the lawn aerated and she ate the dirt plugs, we are looking forward to the snow blanket to cut down on lawn snacking!

  4. Maybe he is finding grubs? They are high in protein and will eat your yard up if not controlled. We are still finding them in our yard even in Nov. Freighter could be on grub control especially if he spits out the dirt afterwards. That grass is beautiful!

  5. Our German will sniff everything on the lawn too. It is amazing the great sense they have. We have deer that travel in our backwoods and he hears everyone of them and barks like crazy.

  6. Oh Freighter…don’t eat the grass. Eat what’s in the grass! I am always on the lookout for bunny chocolates!
    Happy Monday!

  7. Sweet Freighter Chancy totally agrees with you that the front yard is a super snack bar. He spends more time smelling though than he does snacking. You are sure handsome!!! Hugs and nose kisses

  8. Our yard *is* a snack bar. The chickens and duck leave all kinds of tasty morsels for the dogs.

  9. Poor Rita – our yard has no grass so no snack bar for her. She loves to stop and nibble a little grass while we’re out on a walk though! Wonder what makes him want to eat one particular clump over another? Or maybe I don’t want to know the answer to that…

  10. Silas eats some of our ground cover when his stomach is upset. He’s not so much a fan of actual grass, though. He does something that *looks* like eating grass, but it is, alas, eating rabbit poop.

  11. Too funny! We are having the same issue with Toby – although HE doesn’t consider it an issue at all.

  12. Hi Y’all!

I prefer grazing in the hay field.

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  13. What?! It’s NOT a snack bar?? Since when? Why are there so many cool smells out there if we’re not supposed to go after them?? I just don’t get it….

  14. You’re funny Freighter! Have you tried sticks? They’re pretty yummy 🙂

    I hope you’re having a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  15. when i see bailey sniffing around in the yard, she’s usually hunting for worms! she paws at the lawn then rolls in it. now that i have her figured out, when i see her pawing, i stop her before she gets worm slime all over herself.

  16. 😀 Maya and Pierson love to chomp down on grass too. When it comes to eating grass, they are like cows. When it comes to eating dinner, they are like pigs.

  17. I wish grass clumps were the only thing they were snacking on in the yard. Sometimes it’s a race between me and Kobi as to who can get out there first. He hates when I beat him to the clean-up. 🙂
