Four days spent at a dog show is exhausting so I thought I would just post some pictures and results for Freighter. Thanks so much to Freighter’s breeder Cindy for showing the wild child. 🙂
Livonia Kennel Club 1-16-2014
Freighter took First in the Bred By Exhibitor Class and Reserve Winners Dog to a major.
Livonia Kennel Club 1-17-2014
Freighter took 3rd (last) in the Bred By Exhibitor Class.
I thought he actually showed better than the day before, but he is still very immature looking compared to other dogs.
Oakland County Kennel Club 1-18-2014
Freighter took 2nd (last) in the Bred By Exhibitor Class. He was pretty rambunctious in the ring and just wouldn’t settle down.
Oakland County Kennel Club 1-19-2014
Freighter took 2nd in the Bred By Exhibitor Class and Reserve Winners Dog to a major.
He was still pretty excited before he got in the ring, but settled enough to do a decent job. His down and back was very nice. I tried to get pictures, but was not in the best spot and I didn’t want him to spot me and become distracted.
Of course because Freighter is a character, there were some bloopers from the weekend and I will have those tomorrow.
Congratulations to all the winners. It was a fun show and Freighter got some valuable experience.
Here are two posts I wrote back in 2012 about dog shows:
Dog Show Basics–Entering A Show
Dog Show Basics–What Happens In The Ring
Don’t forget that this Thursday will be the inaugural week for the new Thursday Barks and Bytes Blog Hop. Anything goes and we will be having a give-away so make sure to enter the hop on Thursday. Grab the button here or from my sidebar.
Another reason Mom could never be a show dog person, she loves the bloopers and most show people don’t find it so funny! Freighter did awesome and we love that he is a bit squirrley!
We have a good group with the Chessies and laugh a lot at shows. I know some breeds are all serious, but most of the dogs in our breed are shown by breeder/owner/handlers so it can be fun.
Reserve to majors from the Bred-by class! That’s FANTASTIC! He does still look pretty young, but he is coming together so nicely! He’ll be Champion Freighter before you know it.
Thanks he needs a more mature face and a coat which is still coming in. I think he is finally starting to get his adult coat but probably won’t be all in until next year. Just like his grandpa, he is very slow to mature.
Freighter is a champion – never mind what the judges decided! Love from Rolo and Annabel (Chocolate Labs living in London, UK)
Thanks and thanks for stopping by!
You’re still first in our books, Freighter! Much love, The Scottie Mom.
Thank you. He was a good doggie. 🙂
Freighter looking pretty good to my untrained eye. Can’t wait to see the bloopers!
For the most part, he was pretty well behaved. Could have been worse…lol.
Wow four days must have been exhausting indeed. We are glad you had a productive time. Have a marvellous Monday.
Best wishes Molly
Yes it was a long four days. I am still catching up. 🙂
Wow! So cool to him at a show like that! I cant wait to see the bloopers to lol
Congrats on a wonderful show!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. 🙂
I bet you are exhausted! I always wished I had taken the Monday off of work following a show! Congratulations on a great weekend. I was following along on FB:)
A day off after a show is a good idea. Something about all that waiting around is exhausting. I wasn’t even running the dogs around the ring. 🙂
Looks like Freighter likes to get it done on day 1 and then just have fun the rest of the weekend eh?
It always confuses me how differently dogs can perform from day to day in the ring. I mean, sure, they may behave differently, but they’re the same dog with the same appearance and health – it’s just how the different judges perceive them. I never really fully accepted or comprehended this subjective nature of dog show judging.
But in any case, I think he looked great! lol
I plan to go into it a bit when I write my post about what the judge is looking for next week, but Freighter definitely looked immature and his coat was just ok. If a judge prefers a more mature dog, I am OK because there was a nice dog who was more mature than Freighter. We also had a professional handler in the ring and those are hard to beat no matter the quality of the dog. Doesn’t happen much in our breed, thank goodness.
Go Freighter! He looks so good on his down and back…you can sense he has purpose.
Happy Monday,
Oz
He did a nice job and his breeder did an excellent job handling him. 🙂
Congratulations on your showing. Dog shows are such fun but like any competition, they play havoc on your nerves. He did very well and I’m sure will continue to shine as he matures. Great job Freighter!
Thank you. I was really only nervous that he would act up in the ring, but he was a good doggie for the most part. There was tough competition and I was happy where he finished. 🙂
Congrats to Freighter for all those awards! Looking forward to the new hop on Thursday!
Thanks and I finally got you in my reader. 🙂
Congratulations freighter! He looks to be moving really well in the photos.
Thank you. Yes he moves very nicely…except when he starts jumping. 🙂
He looks good from here!
I’ll bet he does really great next year, with a little more ring experience and some physical maturity.
Thanks. I think we will try some Spring shows because both he and his new handler (hubby) can use the experience. 🙂
Congratulations to Freighter and Cindy, and to you! He is an incredibly attractive dog, and I have no doubt that his early exposure to the ring will mean much success for him in the future!
Thank you miss Harper Lee. He had a positive experience and that is what we were rally hoping for.
You’re first with us, Freighter, I don’t care what those judges say! Congrats on placing! (We look forward to the bloopers! 🙂 )
Thanks Daisy. We were really happy with his placements. 🙂
I cant wait to see the bloopers LOL! I agree with RaisingDaisy! Your definitely first with us! 🙂
Siamese smothers!
Thank you very much and thanks for stopping by. 🙂
I thought he looked excellent and you got some fantastic photos. I think from the pictures he moves very well (but I don’t know nothing about judging, lol). Congrats on the RW!
Thanks. He moves very nicely, as long as he isn’t running or jumping around the ring…lol. He has a long stride so we think he might match better with hubby and his longer stride.
That is exhausting to do for several days for all involved. He looks like he is doing very well for a young man. The first day would be the easiest for him, then he’s starting to get tired of being couped up. I think as he matures he will have no problem becoming a Champion 🙂
Thanks. I think you are right about him being tired of being cooped up. We walked him a lot, but it is still not the same as free running.
I know how wiped you are, that is a tiring weekend! I think he did wonderful and even if he placed last it was good experience for him. I can’t wait to see the bloopers.
Thanks Jodi. It was a fun weekend.
Great pictures, and it looks like a great learning experience. Thanks for the B&B hop reminder. I have a review of my car-door protectors to post and wasn’t sure when to post it. Will add it to the hop!
Great. I am behind and enjoyed reading your review. 🙂
I enjoyed the photos….he looks great!!
Thanks. He was a good doggie…for the most part. 🙂
I was at that show Saturday and Sunday – should have tried to see you! We were pretty busy with the Icelandics. Glad you can look at the positive side, in my mind every show is a good socialization experience if nothing else!
It always seems like you will have so much time to check everything out at a show and poof time just gets away. I never get to see as much as I would like to see at any show and I am not even showing a dog. 🙂 Maybe next time. 🙂
Hi Y’all!
You do look so happy!
Y’all come back now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Happy for treats! 🙂
Thanks for the photos, Freighter looked great. We’ve had to hide from dogs in the show ring as well, maybe we could take lessons from the paparazzi.
