We got to the park about 9am on the 4th of July and it was pretty empty.  After we did some land training, we moved over to the water because there was no one over there.  There had been a guy fishing, but I guess he finished up and left while we were working in the field.

We decided to work on steadiness.  Each dog was put in a “sit” and then hubby walked down to the edge of the pond and threw a bumper.  I was already at the edge of the pond and I also threw a bumper to make a double.  It was an easy double because the bumpers were visible and not too far out in the pond.  That was OK because the sitting and waiting was the important part.  Hubby did not return to the dog to send.  He sent the dog from where he was standing by the edge of the pond.

Freighter was a bit confused by this send because he is only used to being sent with his handler standing right next to him.  He was steady for the marks, but when hubby sent him, he ran to his side and jumped in the pond from there and then changed direction to get the bumper I had thrown.  Well at least he was steady for the water marks so the rest was just something to chuckle at.  🙂

Immediately after they finished the water marks, the dogs ran a water blind.  Between the land work and the water work, we hoped to tire them out so much that they would not care about any fireworks.  It worked pretty well in Thunder’s case.  Storm never cares about fireworks, but Freighter could have used more exercise I guess.  🙂

Here are some pictures of their water entries.  They had to run down a bit of a hill to get to the water.

We have been working on steadiness because we have some tests coming up and we all know that Storm and Freighter could use the work!

In case you missed it, I have a give-away going on this week for South Bark Blueberry Facial & Pet Shampoo.  It is a tearless natural shampoo for both dogs and cats.  Open to US and Canadian residents.

  1. Fabulous photos love the whee one! That is a pretty nice looking pond at the park no scum? Have a great weekend we are yet again off to another test today.

    1. No not here. It is a city pond/detention area and there are lots of fish. It was getting kind of littered around the edges, but they cleaned it up this Spring. I would rather have a nice country pond, but we have what we have.

  2. I just love the splash photos – can’t get enough of them! The only bummer is it makes me want to go for a swim!

  3. Something tells me it could be very hard to reach Freighter’s point of tiredness! LOL Love those action photos. I smiled at how well Freighter is trained to take off from his handler’s side – he’s a real thinker! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  4. It looks like they had so much fun! I can’t believe that didn’t Freighter out!

  5. Love seeing your guys race into the water like that. On our vacation this week, we’ve just managed to get Jack and Maggie into the water. Maggie took to it much better than Jack – he’s still skeptical. Wish we had a few more days of vacation and I think I’d have him jumping off the dock. Thanks for joining the Hop.

  6. Hi Y’all!

All I can think is “what a great place to swim”…wish I was there training with y’all!

    Y’all come by now,

  7. You really do have some nice areas for training. I’m still looking here, mostly for Delilah to have a place to swim.

Do you worry about the fish hooks? I worry that one of the dogs will pick up a hook.

    Have a great weekend.

  8. Isn’t it interesting how a change can totally mess with them? Things that we think aren’t a big deal can really trip them up. I love seeing your photos!

  9. I love seeing your brown dawgs jump into the water. It is so obvious that they love it. I don’t think that I’ve mentioned how much I like your new header! It looks great!

  10. More great pictures of your training sessions. The “Launch” photo is one of my favorites from this post. Thanks for sharing.

  11. The second picture gave us a giggle. All of these pictures are great but we think your splash pictures cannot be topped. The dogs do love the water, don’t they? Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. Hugs and nose kisses

  12. I just love these photos of them diving into the water. I can’t wait until Luke is older and better trained so he can be trusted off leash, and we can let him run and dive in. Have a great weekend!!

  13. Hi Y’all!
